3  Technical Board / General Technical / Grey motor oil leaks on: June 26, 2022, 10:46:05 AM
Hi all
I know the saying is if the grey motor has no oil leaks then there’s no oil but,

As I’m not that experienced with the grey motor I’m not sure what is normal or not.
I have noticed exhaust fumes coming from the area where the small arm /lever is on the manifold it’s coming out of the shaft hole.
Also fumes and a small amount of oil from the spark plug holes in the side cover mainly one and two.

I have all new gaskets in it and now it’s been for a few drives I’ve noticed these issue that weren’t there when it was first run.

So what’s normal and is there anything I can do to stop these issues.
Thanks
Trevor
4  Technical Board / General Technical / Engine idle on: June 18, 2022, 08:26:46 AM
Hi all
Moving on from the not running phase the car now runs and drive well apart from braking at intersections and roundabouts
The engine stalls I think it’s something to do with the power brake.

Is it a matter of just idling the engine up ?

Having to brake, clutch, change gears and use the accelerator to keep the revels up all at the same time is annoying

Thanks
Trevor
5  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Engine will not run on: June 17, 2022, 02:21:50 PM
Hi all
I was confident I had top dead centre on number one cylinder.
Seems I got a bit confused with the clock face reference I was assuming that closest to the fire wall was 12 o’clock and
that the rotor button should point towards number one cylinder this is not correct I was way off.

A call to Vern and going through all the steps mentioned at the start it finally clicked that 12 o’clock is closest to the engine and the small groove on the dizzy rim is 5 o’clock lined up the rotor button grove with the grove at 5 and moved the oil pump slot with a screwdriver to Match the dizzy shaft and magic it fell into place.

Of course then the plug leads had to be moved to match the firing order 153624.
Checked every thing was reconnected and it fired up and run first turn of the key.

Just some fine tuning required
Thanks to all that offered up advice it was appreciated cheers

Hi Rob
Probably a stupid question to get to that little inspection plate I have to pull out my carpet pull up the lining and unseal the gearbox cover on the tunnel right?

Thats a pain in the back side is there a short cut?

Thanks
Trevor

9  Technical Board / General Technical / Engine will not run on: June 04, 2022, 09:11:59 AM
Hi o wise ones
my wagon was running and I had some issues with tuning and a mechanic came out and gave it a tune.
He showed me that the dizzy was not working as it should I’ve change the dizzy for a good second hand one and now won’t run
I have air, fuel, and spark and it will not run not even a misfire.
I put the other original back in and the same thing will not run not even a back fire not even looking to fire up.

I’ve checked anything even if the dizzy was out there would some sort of rough idling and backfire
Any ideas?
Thanks

15  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Fc brake drums on: March 21, 2022, 06:51:38 PM
Hi yes the brake shop said they are out of shape and can’t be machines

Only done one local run from the rego office and they shake the crap out of the steering
They must have been just borderline for the blue slip

I’m looking forward to taking someone else for a drive just to have a second opinion an how it all runs
I’m not sure what a 64 year old car is suppose to drive like as I’ve not driven one before my rego trip.

Cheers
