1  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Light Switch Removal on: December 24, 2004, 08:41:58 AM
Jim,
my old girl actually has two light switches fitted courtesy of the previous owner.   I cannot remember exactly why he fitted two, but apparently it had the same problem...no dimmer control.

While I have it appart I'll have a look at them to see if there is anything that can be done to repair the original switch.

It might even be worth looking for a suitable replacement that the original knob can be fitted to so as to keep the "original look" while modernising the functionality.   I know..."poo pooed" by those who subscribe to the "nothing but absolutely original" doctorine but the original parts are getting harder and harder to find in good condition.

Best of luck with your search for a suitable switch....which ever way you decide to go.

As a footnote, I've had my old girl in the garage for about three years now...and probably only done about three months work on her....having a motivational crisis.

Having said that, I cannot emphasise how much information and help I have gained from this Discussion List / Contact Group and it's a credit to the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the members like yourself.   I asked this question today not expecting any answers for days if any and now I have the switch out within a couple of hours......magnificent.

Thanks again guys,

Steve Conaghan

Thanks guys......I would NEVER have found it without your help.

Who was the bright spark who thought up that one....

3  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Light Switch Removal on: December 24, 2004, 03:29:20 AM
Hey guys,
can someone please enlighten me on how to remove the lights switch from the dash.

I have discovered the "nut" around the barrel of the switch which has loosened it in the dash but I obviously need to remove the knob from the end of the switch itself so that it can be withdrawn from the dash.

I have prodded, poked, pulled and twisted all to no avail.

How do I get it off before I do some serious damage.

Thanks in anticipation,

Steve Conaghan
4  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Grey motor engine mounts on: March 28, 2004, 11:28:42 AM
Thanks Ken for the response.

I said it was a stupid question......

How I got confused is that the brackets seem to be able to be fitted pointing either up or down depending upon which side they are fitted to.   For example, the right side bracket can be fitted to the right side (pointing up, I now know from you...Thanks) or fitted to the left side pointing down and vice versa for the other bracket.

Anyway, point is that I now know how to fit them again, thankyou.

Next job, to put the motor and gearbox back in....

Hi guys,
I'm in the (very very slow) process of putting my FC back together and have come up with a really embarrasing problem and am forced to call upon your expertise with a stupid question.

It's been so long now since I pulled the old girl apart I've forgotten how some bits go back together. Lips sealed

The rear engine mounts for the grey motor hold brackets which mount up to the gearbox and are roughly triangular in shape.   My question is should the top of the triangle point up or down to the ground.

Thanks in anticipation that somebody will be able to reply to this between fits of laughter.

No doubt this wont be my last stupid question either.

Thanks for the interest guys but the front end has now gone....Not much chance but I still have the blue motor if anyone wants to take it away.
7  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: Free to a good home on: January 13, 2004, 10:58:37 AM
Actually, the missus who doesn't mind a half finished FC in the garage for the last 2-3 years is rarer than the front end so I'd better be keeping her.

Michael,
I have already been contacted directly by another interested person so in fairness I should give him first shot at it.

If he doesnt show or it is not what he is looking for I'll let you know....

Thanks "RET", yep, that's exactly what I was looking for.

I have a FC Drum Brake front end to dispose of (the missus is getting cranky) and it seems a cardinal sin to even consider taking it to the tip so if there is anybody in Brisbane who would like to come and take the offending member away, just contact me at conaghan11@dodo.com.au and I'll give you the details.

There's also a 202 Blue motor and a box containing the innards of two more Blues which you can have as well if you want.

10  General / General Board / Information on HR Wheels required please on: January 11, 2004, 01:36:09 PM
hello all,

I remember seeing some detailed discussion on this Board somewhere regarding the differences between the different steel wheels available for early holdens (HR's specifically).   From memory, this discussion covered many aspects including deep / shallow dish, identification "holes" and availability in the Brisbane area.

For the life of me I cannot find the thread any more.   I have searched the different Boards and used the obvious key words but cannot find where the discussion was.

Could some kind soul please help with a pointer to the information or provide me with details of how to identify deep dish wheels and where they are available from in Brisbane.

Thankyou in anticipation.

G'Day guys,
I'm jealous....
I live in Brisbane, couldn't finish my old girl to take her down to the Coast, Booked into a hotel for the night (to keep the missus on side, saw ONE FC on the road on Saturday arvo (which just worked up my appetite for the Show 'n Shine on Sunday) and then..... family emergency so had to leave the Coast early Sunday morning.
Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed
I appreciated the photos on this post but I'm sure that there must be a lot more out there somewhere.
Could some of you kind folk PLEASE take pitty on me and either send me some or let me know where they are posted.

I look forward to any and all replys.

Thanks in advance,

Steve C

I'm after some advice on selection of a brake booster.

I had a VH44 fitted to a drum brake fitted front end FC.
I've now have fitted a Disk brake front end and was under the belief that I need to fit a VH40 booster.

Recently, I was told that it is possible (and legal) to run the car with the VH44.

Can anyone throw some light on this.

16  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Mag Wheels on: February 10, 2003, 10:16:31 AM
G'Day,
I'm looking for a set of Mags to suit a FC fitted with HR /Torana disk front end.   The standard FC wheels bind with the disks so I need the deep dish type that fit HR's or early Torana.
The style I'm looking for are the ones with 5 cone shaped spokes (Globes are they Huh).
I live in Brisbane.
17  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: 13 inch DRAGWAY WHEELS on: January 31, 2003, 11:30:10 AM
Slim,
I'm guessing that these would only be a shallow dish as they came off a drum brake fitted unit.   Would that be right??
If they are deep dish, ie suit HR disk brake unit, I could be interested.   Are these the sort with 5 conical spokes??   Would a photo be possible??....where are you, I'm in Brisbane.
