3  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Magneto vs electronic ignition on: November 21, 2013, 06:20:27 PM
hi ,I am an old auto electrician and I recall being told many years ago coil ignition is strongest at low revs and magneto at high, this may not be correct but believe it was due to the time that points are closed in a distributor compared to the speed of magnets in magneto ,Gary
4  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: fuel tank pick up on: October 30, 2013, 09:07:19 AM
hi,had similar problem with pipe blocked ,used coat hanger wire in drill and when it,went thru I put a slight bend in wire right at end ,redoning process and bending wire until I was happy that pipe was clear of blockage completely ,then treated tank with 3 stage rust epoxy paint [excellent stuff about $40 ],when nearly dry I did the wire thing again just in case epoxy was up the pipe .In now and car runs with only a few litres of petrol in tank so pickup pipe all good,Gary

10  General / General Board / Re: COST OF RESTORATION on: September 03, 2013, 09:17:12 PM
thanks for replies,Hamilton chrome have done my bumpers and recommended electro plating technology in ACT who gave me quote today for diecast chroming .A good guy to talk to and happy to spend time with me on phone ,feel that he is genuine and would do a good job.My problem is after the hundreds of hours put in and over half way with build its time to spend thousands of dollars to finish and I am not a person to keep cars for very long... Gary
11  General / General Board / COST OF RESTORATION on: September 03, 2013, 01:12:59 PM
Hi all, am well on the way in completing my FC.Up to stage of chrome plating .Have had bumpers and other metal parts done[cost $1700] now the diecast parts are to be done [quote over $3300] so $5000 plus just for chrome .Wondering what others are spending on their resto,s without labour [hundreds of hours there] with rust repairs, front ends ,engine mods, paint ,resto parts ,interior ,wheels etc the list goes on and whether they think that the parts cost alone is able to be recovered if vehicle was sold,i feel at the moment,it is getting out of hand.If anybody has added up their costs it would be interesting Gary [Nelson Bay NSW]Also anybody knows a cheaper chrome plater I also would be interested

16  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: brett_f's Commodore Wiper Conversion on: August 18, 2013, 07:56:31 PM
thanks for info,my plan is to use the VN wiper arm pivot shafts for the crank shafts which have the tapered spined ends which will enable me to adjust the angle on second crank.Do understand  that both cranks need to be the same so if you could measure between centre points of first crank[that is centre of wiper shaft to centre of hole] that would save a lot of time. Was thinking of setting up wiper arms and physically moving arms over windscreen and measuring at wiper motor point ,how far it travels in a straight line.Once getting that measurement I think I would half that measurement and that would be the length of crank I would require. As I haven,t a windscreen fitted yet I was planning on forgetting about for a while as no one seemed interested in helping. Thanks again for input and as said before that measurement would be handy if you have time to do so ,GARY
17  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Bumper bars on: August 11, 2013, 12:47:31 PM
hi,i have taken my bumpers for rechroming and the man showed me the process which jncludes stripping completely, repairing dents ,filling rusted areas with bronze I think he said ,if needed, replating with copper checking and reparing any slight imperfections and chroming,he showed me recoppered EH bumpers he was working on before chroming .This is what I am paying for and expect. This is in NSW
