Technical Board / General Technical / Window winder and Handle removal
|
on: March 30, 2011, 05:49:17 PM

Hi everyone,
I need to remove my Door lining, and while ago I saw a "tool" for removing the clips on the inside of the Winder and Door handles on Ebay. But is there any other tricks to getting these guys off? I don't want to mess up my lining by doing it wrong.
thanks
Andy

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Gearbox hitting crossmember

I got a couple of longer bolts for the front mount today and as a test stacked a half dozen washers under each one bumping the front up about 1/2 inch. Seems to have given me about the same extra clearnace at the back, I took her for a spin around the block and didnt have any bumping or grinding, so that seems to be getting there.
Only problem was I lost 2nd and 3rd gear as the slight raise changed the linkage length. Will have to play around adjusting the linkages tomorrow to get my other 2 gears back!
making progress

I took some snaps of the mounts and outrigger. mc54, here's where mine is, the hole is at the top, can somone with a HR front end confirm which way up it should be? the rear mount brackets this last one shows the small clearance under the hump

If this crazy weather clears up tomorrow Ill get under her and take a few more close ups and post them. here's 2. The gearbox also rubs at the front of the the trans tunnel. I have had the inspection plate off, the box rubs on the lip/flange where the screws hold the inspection plate in place when I start up, or rev it hard, so I am guessing the back of the transmission just needs to drop down about 10-15mm, to give it extra clearance, I'm just not sure the best way to go about it. Thanks for any suggestions, Andy

Technical Board / Modification Help / Gearbox hitting crossmember

Does anyone have a FC in the ACT that is lowered and has a HR front end fitted I could come and take a look at? My gearbox is hitting against the crossmember every little bump I go over, the clearance between crossmember and the top of the box is only about 5mm.
Did anyone have to modify their engine/gearbox mounts when lowering or fitting a HR front end ?
My ute has a HR front end with a Grey & 3spd box.
I have had it suggested to raise the front engine mount, im not sure this is going to give me enough extra clearance at the back. it would be good to take a look at someone else's with a similar setup.
cheers

Technical Board / General Technical / Blinker not blinking in 2nd gear

I wonder if anyone knows what can cause this? The blinkers work fine when the car is in Neutral, 1st, 3rd and Reverse, but in 2nd Gear the blinker stops to flash. Is there something about the linkage position in 2nd that is causing this?
thanks

G'day everyone,
My gearbox has bitten the dust, does anyone have a cheap crashbox sitting around in the Canberra / ACT area?
I can still drive the ute using 1st and 3rd only, so I would be able to limp over to pick it up.
thanks

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Oil pressure light on

Andy, Although your distributor may be working fine, if it's not installed correctly it won't be driving the oil pump. I suggest you try Seb's idea.
Cheers,
Graham
I tested it out with a screwdriver and battery drill, I DO get oil coming out the pressure gauge hole, then as Colt suggested I then put the gauge back in and turned on the ignition (without starting the car), with the drill turning the pump the pressure light on the dash went off. When I removed the screwdriver it was covered in fine metal shavings (the driver I used was one of those magnetic ones) So my guess is that the slot that drives the pump got stripped out down the length of the distributor tongue. If I push the screwdriver in further than the distributor normally goes, the pump starts to engage. So I have another newbe question, I have got the sump all unscrewed and need to remove the steering arm so I can get the sump out past it (the steering is HR) is there some trick/tool for unlocking the big nuts on the idler arm? I have always taken my cars to a mechanic to get steering work/alignments done in the past. (I Havn't bought a FC/HR manual yet, I am sure it would explain the step by step process in there) Andy

Distributor was working fine, I pulled it out, looks brand new. Anyone in Canberra have an engine hoist I can borrow to get the engine out? unfortunately my garage has a gyp rock ceiling so I can't lift it with a b&t. I wouldn't mind a second opinion on the pump problem once I get the engine out if anyone in the ACT has some time? Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I cant believe she is off the road already, haven't even had her a month yet! Here's a pic from when we got off the ferry from Tasmania, the drive home made for a fun road trip. Andy

Don't ever think that a newish looking oil pressure switch can be in working condition.I've had brand new ones leak oil and oil light on when there is nothing wrong with the engine.
Before you try and find an oil pressure guage just do as others have suggested and undo the oil pressure switch, take coil lead off and crank engine over to see if oil pumps out.If oil pumps out then its a good indication that the pump is okay.Or take the rocker cover off as has been suggested already and start the engine.Look to see if there is oil slowly pumping out of the rocker bleed holes, again, a good indication that the pump is at least working and pumping oil.
Yep, pulled the plugs and oil switch out and cranked it over this afternoon, not even a drop to be seen coming out. Bummer.

Whats the chances of the sensor being bad, it looks brand new, the car has only done 1200 miles since Fast Eddies restoration.
I will try hand cranking the engine without the plugs, and get a pressure gauge and rule this out first.

I think this was my own doing, I should have left the old oil in there!
I drove the car from Tassie back to Canberra (via the ferry) with no problems, and thought I would change the oil before heading up the coast for Xmas. I got just north of Goulburn near Marulan when the light came on, about 120km. It just flickered once and stayed on.
Thanks for the help, I will try some of this out on the weekend
Andy
