Aaaarrrgh! Gary, I was hoping you might have off-loaded the car a lot further down the track, precisely when I could be in a position to buy it back. Having previously owned the car I can give it good recommendation, the fact I wish I could get it back should be pretty good testament.
All the best, Luke.

For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Re: FE Holden Special Sedan - Newcastle, NSW

G'day Graeme,
I remember mate, I haven't got mine on carsales yet, i'm either lazy or hesitant to sell. My wife said the other day I didn't have to sell the FE, but I am pretty certain that translated to "you better not be thinking about keeping the FE" You'll have to load up a picture of the FX to "members other cars" so we can all check it out.
Good luck with the sale. Luke.

G'day Craig,
Thanks mate, you'll have to yell out next time you see me.
I was sorry to see the Old White on Red FC had to go, I'm glad you at the least got to get her out on the road after repairing the brakes. I hope it all works out for Brendan and his plans meet fruition.

For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / FE Holden Special Sedan - Newcastle, NSW

FE Special sedan for sale. $16 900 I have owned this car for almost 12 months, and drive it twice a week. Purchased from Canberra and was blue slipped for transfer to full NSW registration. Safety has been the main focus for me, carrying my baby in the car, so since purchasing I have had done: Front End Crossmember rebuilt with all new Rare Spares rubbers and shocks by Pedders Suspension. Brakes serviced with new wheel cylinders, re-lined shoes all round and handbrake cables. Rear wheel bearings & oil seals replaced when Diff centre converted to 3.55 ratio. Voltage regulator serviced Replaced Generator (2011) New Water Pump, Cooling system overhaul, New thermostat, Hoses, Heater Hoses, Re-core Radiator (2010) Vehicle has been painted at some stage, floor pans in the front have been replaced. The Vehicle ID plate suggests that the Car was originally grey with a white roof and also suggests that the motor has been exchanged for an EJ Grey motor. Otherwise the car is stock original, the original Olympic Air Ride Spare tyre is with the car (I replaced with a sumitomo for safety). Has 2 seat belts in the front, 1 in the rear centre with child seat restraint fitted. Strong motor, good gearbox, drives dead straight and stops like a modern car should. Further details as per photos; If you're interested in purchasing the car please send me a "PM", or call 0409 595 068 Thank you, Luke.

I'll try to get in and do a lap of Kurri Main Street on my way home Sunday Morning, I'll keep my eyes open for you and your FE.
Cheers, Luke.

Thank you guys, a couple of great diff jokes there to cheer me up. I was assuming the diff had got into a tiff .....(yeah, that was pretty crap).
Once I muster up some cash and repair, I'll be sure to post some photographic evidence to the topic.
Thanks again, Luke.

Thanks for your reply guys, funny Gaz, but I swear I wasn't attempting to "smoke" anybody at the lights.
Please excuse my ignorance, if a universal joint broke would I be able to see it? I thought if one went then my tailshaft would be flappin' in the breeze. What I can see looks fine.
Out of gear, i can turn the tail shaft freely by hand full revolution then there are clunky noises in the rear and something intermittently grabs and moves the car. In gear, the tailshaft will not turn and I can roll the car forward and reverse without the tailshaft turning. Does this indicate the clutch is okay?
Thanks again, very much appreciated.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Rear end advice
|

Hi Forum,
Last night, while driving my stock FE, I gently dropped the clutch from a set of lights and had a mishap. There was a "thud" from the rear and while giving the accelerator there is a horrible slow vibrating noise. All gears can be selected and the car will slightly crawl. I haven't had time to check but I assume the tailshaft is still turning and that the problem is between the diff and wheel hubs. A local Gearbox Mechanic is guessing it is a broken axle, fortunately I have a pair of axles from a stock FE to go in. I thought the diff might have given way, so I am going to source a 3.55 ratio diff incase that needs replacing, I want to convert the 3.89 diff to 3.55 anyway.
My question to the experts (if you're still reading), From the limited information provided, is there something else that has more likely failed? Is the conversion of a 3.89 diff to a 3.55 diff a simple bolt off and bolt in process? Are the stock FE axles course spline and is the diff housing okay with the 3.55 diff centre?
Thanks for your help, any advice is appreciated, Luke.
