1  Technical Board / Modification Help / fitting front seat belts on: November 19, 2017, 12:34:54 AM
Hi all,

My FC is still a virgin for front seat belts but my wife is not comfortable riding around without them!

I am looking at fitting seat belts and have a few ideas on how to do it but wondered how others have done it.

Ive read that it is possible to feed a plate down the pillar from the top if no roof lining is in the car?
Seeing as mine still wears its original fragile roof lining that's no good.

I was thinking about possibly cutting a slot in the lower pillar to feed a plate into the pillar and use string to hoist it up to the desired positon then tac weld it trough a few holes. grind and repaint the pillar?

Then I could fit another plate in the lower pillar to bolt the lower seatbelt bracket to. Then plate and weld the slot up and paint the pillar?

Don't really want the old bolt through the pillar trick!

Suggestions

2  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: What shocks to pair with Lower King Springs? on: November 19, 2017, 12:22:59 AM
Hey Phil,

any pics of the car with the springs in?

I'm looking at king springs as well. The shocks in my car are near new. If is use these king springs and 1.5 inch lowering blocks can I confirm the standard shocks are ok?

3  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: accelerator stuck on: March 02, 2013, 08:19:07 PM
Thanks all, I had a muck around with it this morning. The linkage was rubbing on one of the bits that stick out of the manifold. Not sure what it is? Might be to vacuum access?? Filed it away a bit and slightly bent the linkage. Guess what! That bloody squeak that had driven me nuts is gone. It was that just touching the manifold. It was one of those noises that you can't quite hear where it's coming from. Yay!! Car is now all sorted and ready for RWC. The only thing that could be picked that we can find is the front rubbers in the rear springs. Want to try get through without doing those until it's on the road as the springs are coming out next to get retentioned and get it sitting a bit lower and want to do it then. The body is neat but up close the paint is not good. It's got character put it that way. We are building another house at the moment so paint etc has to wait till that's done. Just want to get it out and driving. She has been sitting too long. Cheers Rick

mmmmmm. That spring is there on the drivers side pushing the bar across to the passanger side. For some reason the linkages are hitting the manifold unless I slide the bar torwards the drivers side. Has never done this before until it got pressure washed.
linkages have not been taken off or mucked with as far as I know. Ill muck around with it tomorrow. Picked it up today from getting all the brakes sorted from sitting around and having a booster fitted and other stuff. thought I would cruise home in it only to be met with the accelerator getting stuck.
Ill put some new eyes on tomorrow and sort it out.

5  Technical Board / General Technical / accelerator stuck on: March 01, 2013, 10:47:16 PM
Hi all, I have just finished pressure washing the fc and now have a problem with the accelerator pedal getting stuck down? Coincidence?? What I have noticed is the bar that runs accross the back of the engine moves left and right. (While facing the car) When its sitting to the right the linkages that sit under the manifold rub on the bolts sticking out under the carby and get stuck there. Push the bar to the left and no probs. There is a spring on the left hand side on the bar where it goes through the bracket but none on the bracket right hand side. I'm thinking that I've pressure washed it off if there is meant to be a spring there at all?? Hope this makes sense?

Zulu I think you have mixed up your forums. A mind, body and spirit hippy forum is the one your looking for. Although maybe it would work if I had fat tyres/legs as it would stop rubbing/chaffing? Or maybe your are a sales rep for Johnson and Johnson? Ha ha! Not sure that por15 would be any good for my own underbody? Might have a few issues with that?

7  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Underbody treatment? on: March 01, 2013, 03:50:57 PM
Hi all, wondering what is recommended for underbody surfaces. What are people using. My fc is pretty much rust free with just one old repair on the passenger side for and a replacement wheel well. Ive pressure washed underneath and am now working on getting all the hidden dirt and grease out of the nooks and crannys. A bit of wire brush work and then gonna hit it with something to make it look awesome and protect it. My preference is por15. Has anyone used this or is there something better/easier to use?

Hi, I also have an ascot grey standard FC. Love the look of the 215's as they seem to stand out more than the specials. Mine looks just like yours only with whitewalls and spats. I brought it quite a few years back from this forum so some on here would know of it.

10  Technical Board / General Technical / Which way do brake shoes go? on: October 05, 2008, 09:51:17 PM
I've have just relined the brake shoes on my fc and when I went to pick them up they were all in a bag pulled to bits. I need to know which way the brake shoe link retainer goes? In the book it shows R.H side brakes with the primary shoe (the one with the link attached) facing the front of the car and the spring faces outwards. My question is the left hand side reversed so the primary shoe is still facing the front and the spring to the outside??
