Thanks, Ken.  I should have also said that this glass can't be original.  Original FB glass was "Armourplate Safety Glass" and I'm guessing GMH wouldn't have fitted different glass in the quarter vent windows.  Even if different glass was fitted, the dots on the Armourglas logos give timeframes that don't make sense for a car that we believe was assembled in December 1960 or January 1961.  So it has to be replacement glass. 

But the origin and vintage of the Armourglas glass in our ute is proving frustratingly elusive.  The only reference to Armourglas that I've found thus far was on a Ford forum in the UK.  That dated the glass to the 1960s.  However, though the logo on the Ford forum was strikingly similar to the photo on the right, it was different enough for me not to shout "Eureka!".  I've talked to Pilkington but they couldn't help.  So I'm hoping someone, somewhere, will know something about it.  In the meantime, I'll just have to keep hunting.  :-)

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether window glass with these markings are from the 1960s or 1970s (or later, maybe)?



I'm trying to work out whether the one on the left is 1963 or 1973 (the dot's under the "M"), and likewise, whether the one on the right is 1960 or 1970 (the dot's over the "S" in "Armourglas").  The glass is from the quarter vent windows on our FB ute.

Q pls:  Am I correct that the connections for a Ryco oil filter go into plugs 1 and 2, and that the oil filter inlet connects to plug 1?

Also, does anyone know what 3 and 4 are used for?

Lizard, re how to know where to drill the holes - we cut up overhead projector foils and taped them securely into 2 long strips 4" wide and long enough to reach from side to side across the tray area.  We picked 2 cross beams to work with - the one over the petrol tank, and the one just back from the cabin.  For each plastic strip, we taped one side of it securely to the tray floor, draped it over the cross member and then marked its position carefully on the other side of the tray floor.  We marked the hole positions in the plastic using a hole punch.  That gave us a template for the holes.  We then lifted the unattached side of the template, put the wood down and laid the template back over it, aligning the template to the marks we'd made on the tray floor.  Then we marked hole positions in the wood again with a hole punch.  Once we had each of the 6 metal straps screwed in with 2 screws, we used the holes in the metal straps as the guide for the remaining screws/bolts.   Hope this helps.  And, for what it's worth, we used 12mm marine ply.

Thanks very much, Ed.  Yes, there's only an "idiot light" (at least, on the FB), though I thought that only came on when the engine was cooking, not already cooked.    I guess we were wondering whether the 239F-rated temperature switch was for a red motor rather than a grey, and whether there's a lower-rated switch for the grey.

We have installed (discretely) a digital temperature gauge, but the sender is connected to the thermostat housing bolt, so it's going to take time to figure out what's an OK temperature range vs what's not.

Hi all,

Does anyone know the temperature rating for a grey motor temperature sender?  We have a spare AC Delco that has "239 F LO" written on it.  239F seems high for a grey motor.  Would it be for a red? 

Just thought we'd check before putting it in our trusty grey.

Hello all,

I'm a brand new member to the site but have been reading posts for a while.  Congratulations on, and thank you for, a terrific and incredibly valuable forum!

Q:  Does anyone know whether the original GMH rear amber indicator lenses  had any markings or branding imprinted on them (part number, "Holden" etc.)?  We need to find a pair for our FB ute.  We know the part number (7414545) but don't know how to identify originals from reproductions.
