yep as i understand it QLD sucks my uncle had a WB ute factory fitted with a bench seat and had to have it blue plated because he put buckets in it, and yes they were WB bucket seats that he fitted

imagine what those No plates are worth Shocked
8  For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Re: Thinking of selling, need approx quote. cheers on: November 26, 2012, 02:18:13 PM
I wouldn't consider it an insult. He asked what its worth for what we think. It's difficult as you don't want to upset people. I wouldn't jump on a forum as a first post looking for a quote. He would had to have bought it from somewhere and would have at least a ballpark idea.

Although there are EK's going for a million dollars (pinky in mouth DR Evil style)

asking and going for are 2 entirly different things Wink Grin

10  General / General Board / Re: rego woes on: October 03, 2012, 02:22:29 PM
yes i'de say not a bad idea not to talk about changing engine No's
as for the other stuff there wouldn't be that great a differance in power from a 186 to a 202 many people actually prefer the 186 so i don't know where the structual integrity thing comes into it Roll Eyes last i knew the only extra stuff required by an engineer from a 186 to a 202 were collapsable collum and dual circuit brakes nothing that increases the structual integrity, i'de even go as far as saying there'de be nearly as many originally grey powered cars fitted with red motors now as there is grey powered cars most of which don't have chassis kits or anything else increasing there structure and they're as safe as they ever were

as for chassis kits in V8 cars there used to be a couple of (NSW) engineers that didn't ask for them, i don't know anymore as i've had no contact with any engineers since the change, i did a 308 powered EK ute with a reasonably healthy engine over 10 years ago it had no chassis kit (engineer didn't require it) and that car is still on the road and as good as the day it was done
as the engineer said, they are basically the same structure as H/KTG holdens and they're fine with 350 chevs

also not saying they're not a good idea

i'll be in a brownish '65 chev impala with a guy in a quick red with flames "60 pontiac leaving thursday night
12  For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Re: HJ V8 Panelvan on: September 11, 2012, 08:52:25 PM
anybody know how to contact ACE
13  General / General Board / Re: rego woes on: September 09, 2012, 09:18:00 PM
i'de be looking for a 186, as has been said strange for the engineer to say that cause in NSW a 202 should come under the same size regs as a V8 collapsable collum and dual circuit brakes but that can also depend on the engineer, i know of a guy that's had a few V8 HRs go through on single circuit brakes

it used to be sooooo good when people had old holdens/old cars in general because they loved them, but then money came into it a couple of guys wanting to make huge profits then it bleeds off to others seeing this and jumping on the bandwagon with no other interest in these old cars than the mighty dollar, very very sad
16  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: In NSW - Can I put a 3.08 in an FC Station Wagon? on: July 17, 2012, 05:13:10 AM
the weight gors off a recorded weight that the RTA/RMS has on record NOT the weight of the car you have, so you could fill it with lead and it won't make a scrap of differance to what you can and can't do
and it says 3.08 maybe he just wants to change the diff centre Grin
17  General / General Board / Re: Milestone 25 years, no not the wife, the other love on: June 18, 2012, 08:00:45 PM
wish i could do that
was talking to an older mate on saturday that has a HR, i knew he'de had it a while but in talking he's had it since 1971, was the family car the one he wasn't touching Roll Eyes he then told me the sucsession of engines it had up till i think he said in 1984 it got a 327 and guess what all the way back then he heard the same story people hear today "you can't do that"  Grin
18  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 13"s on drop spindles on: January 15, 2012, 02:40:09 PM
they are more than a 2" drop aswell, as they are based on 14" H/KTGQ etc stubs so it's closer to a 3" drop on a 13" car, i've also had 13" wheels with drop stubs can't remember what i did there's also a car in my back yard with LH/LX brakes and 13" non torana wheels no issues no spacers but has hadfield front mount rack
19  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: m22 4 speed and 3.08 diff behind a grey on: January 04, 2012, 01:55:08 PM
for me the grey is a good option, it keeps the car traditional, to the way it was built + the car is dead stock, except for the rims Cool
if i was after a drag car i wouldn't have brought a classic, and the only engine idd be putting in it's place would have 8 cylinders, but as the car is stock, it'll stay that way,

I'm just trying to source some box options to make fwy driving a bit easier, and handle some extra grunt,

another thing i look at is power to weight, with a grey the weight of the vehicle is kept low around 1150kg kerb 1060 tare
once you fit a v6 of v8 the weight go up about 250 kg with all bits and pieces you need to add.

vr v6 130kw@1400kg= 93kw per 1000k
vz v6 153kw@1400kg= 109kw per 1000kg
worked grey 130hp/100kw @1150= 87kw per 1000kg

stock vz 152kw@1590kg tare= 96kw per 1000kg
my stock grey 70hp/53kw@1060 tare= 50kw per 1000kg

yes there are more powerful v6 around (175/190kw) but they are also alot more expensive, and cost more to fit

thats still a mid 15sec pass, witch is no slug for a 50 year old car with a 50year old power-plant

to much theory not enough practicle there Wink Grin i've had ALL sorts of options in early holdens for me grey's will do the job and are cool (BUT dear as poison to do anything to these days) a red is my prefered option (just about all of my driving is open road 100-110 +kmh Lips sealed driving, 6 is only my prefered option due to ease of fitting and cost otherwise it would be V8, V6 maybe but they sound horrid
here's my practicle i think 130+HP from a grey would be hard to achieve in a streetable car, BUT you will get them to go reasonably well, i've had many hotty red 6's one day i bought a V6 manual VN wagon and in that VN (heavier than an early holden) it went like a scalded cat would have given alot of hot reds in early holdens a REAL good run for there money and left most watching the back of the wagon dissapearing all this with great fuel economy, i've had a few V8 earlies and well in a nutshell they were FANTASTIC Wink Grin
BUT these are just my views am in no way trying to persuade you not to use a grey, have you considered a 5 speed there's a fairly good how to on the FB/EK forum it's behind a grey and the guy seems wrapped in the conversion
20  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: m22 4 speed and 3.08 diff behind a grey on: January 01, 2012, 11:23:10 PM
The red 2250 motor as Deano said was in the standard Torana's it was stamped as a 2.2 on the block. The first red motors 149 & 179 started in the EH holdens all motors before this where 138 grey sideplates up to the EJ
Regards Jim

i've had quite a few 138 reds and every single one has had 138 on the side i've never seen one with 2.2 not saying they didn't just i've never seen it

150 hp grey motor Shocked i've read articles on race cars with hand grenade engines struggling to make 100 hp

fchoon as far as i know in NSW we can still fit 138 red 149 red with no engineers it's up to who ever is doing the inspection to decide if they're happy with the quality of engine mount welding
