Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Mini tubs vs rear rail modification??
|

There are a number of factors at play here that puzzle me and although I havent had a look at the rules for modified production vehicle since it has been updated and joined Australia wide I would still imagine it hasn't changed to much. is moving the rails closer together accepted ? I didnt think it was! I knew kicking them up was ok ... so how does track width work here with the negative offset on a 305 wide rim and say 195 up front. and the rear wheel had to be no more than 2 inches wider than the front I thought . 255 fronts aquaplaning the rear with 305 wide tyres under an 1100kg would be an issue right. I would love to know how the hoops to jump through here should align and what your engineer actually says.. im just about to do a four link that will involve kicking the rails up higher .ive offset some rims with a large dish and I have an early Hilux borgwarner diff that was 1350 wide and im shortening 20-30mm more. but its just not getting the look. if im going to cut the inner guards to square them and kick the rails up I may aswell move them in aswell if its legal. ive been in a position many years ago where I was involved in an accident that I wasnt to blame for and there was the chance of it being a fatal. the police had impounded the modified car I was driving and were trying to find a reason to convict me . His exact words were .look its not that we dont want to book you its just that we cant find anything to book you for... the engineers certificate matched the car but if it didnt and that person died I would be jailed for manslaughter... so I guess im asking can we play by the rules and legaly do a certified tub job ?

know of 3 clean shells for sales, you know the ones someone else has already dropped big $$$ into, just don't have the 5 figures most are asking for them, + the one I'm keen on was already engineered many years ago with blown v8 witch is near impossible to do in vic now days
be carefull if its anything like here as long as its still registered everythings hunky dory . If its out of rego with the new system a new owner will have to re engineer .possibly but a very slim chance that the person who owned it on the engineers cert might get it regoed

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Full Chassis

ek body 1970 crown chassis , fc body 1968 crown chassis and a mate has an fj with 79 crown wagon chassis cut down to fit. all are small block chevs although i set up both mine with big blocks untill they changed the power to weight ratio in nsw..
the fj has the engine mounted high and clears the facrtory power steering box but doesnt look real cool and the tailshaft angle might suffer as a result. my project is sidelined for now so ill be watching on closely.

ive set my engine in low to keep the centre of gravity down and this now takes the space of the original crown steering box. im finding it hard to get a suitable rack to work , im thinking a centre steer will work but havent sourced one as yet. this is about the only major hurdle so far ,good luck.

i remember being converted from the save good original chrome to the get it rechromed type when i was enjoying a good detailed look ovrr john rappinettes car at all holden day a few years ago. it was a few years old already and was parked next to a fresh rebuild fc with repolished chrome and the difference to the quality was truly worth it in visual effect. the other looked like an old lady with a new shirt but faded jewelery.
john if your tuned in ,where was yours done and hows it holding up.
also ive been told if somethings already pitted it takes quite a few dips to get the oxygen out before chroming and its not always succesfull , the same results with one dip saving time with the chromer but the pits come back later on. my mate had some extremely badly pitted a40 door handles done succesfully by linishing off the damaged surface and reshaping the handle.

im about to send off one peice bumpers without over riders , standard head and tail light surrounds . these dont need to be stripped of chrome so id imagine this is a big saving considering i had some camaro bumpers stripped of chrome to paint them once ,and the stripping cost almost the same as chroming.. but all in all im scared of the price.
