2  Technical Board / General Technical / What type of oil for grey motor ? on: April 19, 2010, 07:55:51 PM
Just wondering what grade and brand of oil people are using out there for there grey motor.
I am currently using Valvoline 20/50W or should I be looking at using a straight grade oil, if so what grade and what brand of oil?
Thanks,
Sam
3  General / Events, Shows etc / Re: GM Day Tanunda April 11 on: April 12, 2010, 09:21:50 PM
Unfortunatly I did not make it, the old girl gave up about 200km out of town and I had to be brought back home, so far I have found a stripped timing gear, but it did develop a knocking noise before the gear let go, unsure what the noise is as yet, I will be replacing the timing gear and fingers crossed knocking nosie has gone, if not it looks like engine out and rebuild.  The car has travelled 77,000 miles and it looked as though the timing gear is the original timing gear.

I am trying to go, I live in Broken Hill so it is a bit of a drive for me but I will be attempting the trip, I have never been to a GM day so I am looking forward to it, hoping all goes well on the trip.  I missed out on the Nationals so I thought I would go to this.

7  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: FC Brake Repairs on: January 26, 2010, 09:41:52 PM
Thanks for the replys, I will do some research this week and see what is available and whether it is worth it to repair or send mine away to resleeve.  I will also keep in mind of the set of 4 that are for sale, thank you.
My car has always been in Broken Hill and I am about the 4th owner, the car had a resto about 12 yrs ago but it is still very good as it has sat for about 8 years.  It just needs a few little things done as it has not been used much, such as the brakes.  I am just doing some tidying up and making it more reliable to drive.  You never know what you can find out in these small country towns, there are still a lot of very original cars around here, but there owners will not part with them.

8  Technical Board / General Technical / FC Brake Repairs on: January 26, 2010, 12:52:26 PM
I have a FC and I am currently carrying out repairs to the brakes, I have removed all wheels to inspect the brake wheel cylinders and 3 out of the 4 are leaking.  Should I remove all wheel cylinders and have them stainless steeled and if so who would be able to do this, or should I just replace the seals, clean them out and reassemble.
Also what brake fluid is recommended, any suggestion would be appreciated as I am always having brakes locking up when I drive and I want to get it right so I do not have to remove it all again.
Thank you,
Sam

11  General / General Board / Re: Car Bra on: August 08, 2009, 09:05:53 PM
Thanks everyone for the replies, even though I don't think I will be able to get a car bra like the one in the photo (I wish).  But if anyone dooes have any photos of there FC with a carbra that would be great.  I have been in touch with car bra Australia in Melbourne and they have told me that they have made one for an FC and emailed me a photo, but it is not a real good close up photo.  I would like to talk to someone who has one before I purchase one.
Thanks,
Sam

14  General / General Board / Re: Question about obsolete rubber mats for FC on: June 24, 2009, 09:48:24 PM
Thanks John, I was a bit worried when they turned up today that they where incorrect as I have not seen another FC with these mats and my car has carpet in it that was there when I purchased the car.
I can make a start and fit them now.

Thanks again,
Sam
15  General / General Board / Question about obsolete rubber mats for FC on: June 24, 2009, 08:51:49 PM
I have just purchased front, rear and boot rubber mats from obsolete rubber mats for my FC, the rear mat has a different texture to the front mat it has a rough finish as the front is more glossy and a smooth finish, has anyone else got these mats and is this normal.
Thanks

19  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Brakes Locking up on: January 07, 2008, 04:28:29 PM
Thank you to all that replied, I will take all of that in consideration.  If I do need to recon the wheel cylinders who would you recommend.  Are there kits still available or are they an exchange item.
thank you
Sam
20  Technical Board / General Technical / Brakes Locking up on: January 06, 2008, 01:21:32 PM
My Rear right hand brakes locks up on application on my FC, but than releases when you take off again.
I have checked the wheel cylinder and seemed to bit sticking and not releasing, so I backed of the brake but has made no difference.
Has anyone got any ideas?
