1  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: how to start a grey motor after 30 odd years on: October 07, 2007, 07:19:59 PM
Maybe take the car to the top of a very steep hill, let it roll down a bit and then ease the clutch out in second or third.. just to get the motor to turn.
Also before starting you can pour some dextron in the carby..acts as a upper cylinder lube.. and will burn off once the motor is running..
similar to putting oil in the spark plug holes..(by the way, best way to do the latter is with a spay type nozzle on an oil can so you can spread the oil over the piston instead of it running down the side of the cylinder and only lubing a small area.)
Personally i would suggest stripping down and rebuild, not that hard once you get into it.

it's out of my fc and i guess it's a standard fc diff however i'm not 100%.
a previous owner had put a floor shift in but engine and gearbox were removed prior to my purchase.
am putting hr disc front in (202 & 3speed column) and am trying to work out what to do at the rear.
.....
that didn't work..
will post pics as soon as i work out how..
stay tuned.

hello all.
i am rebuilding a fc special sedan and have a diff question.
i am putting in a hr disc front end, 202, 3spd manual from a hq, and wondering which diffs i can use and which work best (with least mods..)
Also does anyone in the Gold Coast, Bris area have one going cheapish??
Regards,
Steve.

I don't suppose you've got any spare bench seats lying around, or an engine, gearbox, hr disk brake front end, steering column....... Smiley

15  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: cross member support for aussie 4 speed on: August 20, 2007, 08:25:31 PM
i think there's one in my car (bought a wreck with no engine or box and has a hole in the floor and crosmember bolted on). but i'm wanting to go to 3spd column.. ( don't want to hijack your post though so i'll ask questions about that one elsewhere).
I'm thinking if i can't use it you coould have it depending on where you are.
16  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Engine options on: August 20, 2007, 08:21:05 PM
What about option 5??
Sell the 179 to me for my project.. Also looking for a 3 spd column shift and box, front and rear bench seats, hr disk front end, etc...

17  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: help identifying fc on: August 15, 2007, 08:54:44 AM
Ok. I just made the plate No.s up..thinking that's what they should be from reading a tech article somewhere.
Also got the chassis No. wrong is actually 8 2652B.
A id plate probably would help with rego. if i can get one.
Looks like car has been modified for floor shift (hole cut out in floor, different steering column, gearbox support added, and looks like a bracket welded in for bucket seats).
I'll be looking to go back to column shift and bench seats.
Hopefully not too much messing around.
Cheers
18  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: help identifying fc on: August 13, 2007, 02:30:21 PM
Excellent , thanks for that. 2452B
I guess that means the 2452nd FC Special Sedan put together in the Brisbane assembly plant.
Therefore if i had a complianceplate the No. would be FC 225 2452 B
Thanks again.
19  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: help identifying fc on: August 13, 2007, 01:49:23 PM
mmm.can't seem to find the chasis no. either.
any more precise clues as to it's location ie.near crossmember, wishbone, steering column, seen from inside engine bay or behind guards or underneath??
thanx
20  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: help identifying fc on: August 12, 2007, 06:43:24 PM
thanks for the quick reply.
yeah i can see the spot where it was..
two holes, one looks like it has some black silicone in it.
i'll look for the other number tomorrow when there'ssome light.
is it gonna be a major head$#@* as far as rego goes with no comp.plate.??
Can i get one off a wrecking yard??
and how much info can i get from the frame no.
cheers.
