1  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Steel timing gears, masters eng? on: January 28, 2014, 02:19:08 PM
Ok, I'm going to answer my own questions here.
I just rang Auto Barn Lawton (they also build race motors) and he said that they are out of business.
He has fitted 2 sets of JP engineering gears with no problems.
He also has a set on the shelf.
So I'm all sorted.
BTW they also keep Gray motor engine enamel, water pumps and other parts.
Talk to Rob. Awesome to deal with. Unlike Repco!
Cheers
Jeff
2  Technical Board / General Technical / Steel timing gears, masters eng? on: January 28, 2014, 01:56:17 PM
Hi guys,
I am in urgent need of a set of timing gears.
I have been trying Masters engineering but no answer.
I tried emailing them and it bounced back.
Are they out of business?
If so what is the best alternative?
I suppose I have to fit alloy one.
I have heard if you fit a new one with a new steel crank gear they are quiet.
I have had red motors with alloy cam gears and they were quiet.
What is differant with a grey motor?
Cheers
Jeff

4  General / General Board / Re: FE Ute Exterior mirror on: July 20, 2002, 09:33:29 AM
Hey RET that is one rare ute!  Left hand drive!   Shocked I think your image has been flip-floped before printing so you can't see the side mirror anyway. Ken i have in front of me a photo of my fathers FE ute dated june 1964 and it has a long curved arm clamp on mirror.I also have a photo of an FC ute I breefly owned it has no mirror.I am not a douting thomas as these utes could have holes that cant be seen in photo.I had a neat looking mirror on my FE when i got it. It was rectangle shape, larger at top than bottom, chrome die cast, screwed to door.
5  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Front sub frame on: July 19, 2002, 09:37:11 AM
Personally, I would look around for a good second hand subframe, should work out cheaper and quicker. Wink

Don't get confused with Bob Hatfield, he had a falcon ute Grin

7  General / General Board / Were FE's recalled? on: July 15, 2002, 09:54:52 AM
:-/I own an FE 215 and in boot on top of wheel arches there ia no strenthening plates. My mother has an FE 215 that was purchased new by my grandfather just before the FC was launched and it has these plates. I was told that FE's were recalled to have this fitted and late FE's came factory fitted. Is this true? and why are they fitted? I am assuming for strength. I have had my FE since 1989. It has a strong red motor and drive train and I have givin it a hard time. I have also done a lot of heavy towing and there is no sign of it falling in half yet!
P.S  I treat my mums car like a baby, its on its  original fiber timing gear ! Shocked
8  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FC ute door locks on: July 15, 2002, 08:32:03 AM
:-/ never understood the idea myself, but has something to do with unlocking the car from the the safty of the footpath. Standard sedans only had one lock to. I made a cardboard template from the passenger door, flipped it over and marked the drivers door, drilled a starter hole, then hand filed the rest. Put your passenger lock in drivers door and a dummy one in passenger side.  Too easy!  Wink
