Hi again Dave,

As I indicated I think they were the number of teeth on the gear. Can not be exactly sure as it was a number of years ago. However as I indicated with the different gear the speedo is almost spot on given by the highway speed indicator.

Better than what it was with the original gear.

High Dave,

I did this conversion a number of years ago (there is a thread on this site somewhere). There are two different speedo gears for a grey taking into account 13 and 15 inch wheels as discussed.

One has 19 teeth and the other 21 (i think). Anyway I changed them and now the speedo reads pretty close. In actual fact I just check this on the freeway on the weekend. I was doing 60mph on the speedo and it read 98kmh on the indicator. Not bad considering 62mph is 100kmh.

Do a search of the site and you find the finer details of the discussion.

Cheers

As I mentioned in the post above I can confirm I found two different gears. And there was a difference when I changed them.

I've done it the second way with the engine running but it can become frustrating if you use a standard screwdriver. To do it properly you need a spring loaded screwdriver where the head can freely move in and out of the handle.

I've been through this process a number of years ago and somewhere on this site there is a discussion based on it. Through my collection of speedo gears I found that I had two types with a different number of teeth. For memory one had 21 teeth while the other had 23. Ken informed me that one was taken from a 48-215 / FJ gear box because of their bigger wheel diameter. I changed this gearing and while not 100 % accurate it would be within two miles per hour.
Hope this helps.

I've  got an FC ute which is fitted with Rare Spare rubbers. They have been in for approximately 4 years and I still need to have the vent window open in order to shut the doors properly without slamming. So answering your question, yes it is possible.

7  Technical Board / General Technical / Dull Headlights on Dip on: September 04, 2002, 07:46:24 AM
I hope someone maybe able to help me with this problem. About 6 to 8 weeks ago I painted out the engine bay in me FC ute. To do this I diconnected all the wires including the head lights. Once finished I put all wires back in the positions where they came from.

However, since then I have found that the lights on dip are dull. Also they dull slowish when dipped from high beam. I have also noticed that the high beam indicator light (idiot light) is partially illuminated when on dip. (I am unsure if this was the case previously.

Oh, by the way the lights have halogen inserts, not the normal globes.

Many thanks in antipication.
