1  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: rb 30 with rb25 head  turbo on: July 03, 2007, 09:44:44 PM
Check out the RAT rules @
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi06.pdf

There are formulas on page 3 that will allow you to calculate what you can do for N/A or super/turbo charged.

Check with your engineer but if you have brake, steering and driveline upgrades you should be able to get a full engineers cert with the more powerful engine.
Make sure you ask lots of questions and if possible get responses in writing (esp. from the RTA).

I'm the fool they were taking about attempting to put VL struts in my EH.

Glutton for punishment!!!!!
2  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Front end for EH on: July 02, 2007, 07:39:27 AM
I am just about to carve up my donor VL so I thought while I'm going I'll look into this as well.

Thanks for your replies. I know this would be a difficult conversion but why the hell not!?

Just found the post for the image.

Anyone got any info?

Thanks Ken lol.
Everything's possible but how possible. :-/

I've seen a photo of an EH with the struts etc, transplanted but I can't remember where.
4  Technical Board / Modification Help / Front end for EH on: July 01, 2007, 06:47:50 AM
I am about to start an RB30 transplant into my EH and was wondering if it was possible to transplant the VL front end as well.
I have a HR front with disks already in but was wondering if putting the VL front in was possible to update the steering and brake system in one hit.

Mags have sold. Thanks to everyone for their enquiries.
6  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / 13" Dragway Mags on: May 05, 2007, 07:34:24 PM
I've got a set of 5, 13" Dragway mags and the centres in excellent condition. These are coming off my EH that is back in the shed for a ground up rebuild.

I have photos, so if you email me I can send you some. These mags are really in exceptional condition. They've been polished, wrapped and packed for a while now.

I am in Temora, NSW and can deliver if you are reasonably close.

$500 neg.

7  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: aussie 4 speed to 186 on: February 27, 2007, 11:34:08 PM
I've done this conversion years ago in my EH. Worked but new tailshaft and speedo cable were required along with the mount.
Remember you are supposed to reinforce around the hole in the floor.

Still have it all to get rid of soon if anyone is interested send a PM.
8  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Recirculating Ball or R&P on: November 17, 2006, 02:17:58 AM
Excellent info. I currently have the front end off so I might spend some time (& money) checking things over and replacing what needs it.
Thanks

I replaced my EH column with a recoed job and it did very little to reduce the play in the steering. I was young and dumb and never thought of looking further down river. When I get the EH back together again I'll remember to check further.
If anyone has further advice / stories of getting rid of steering play I'd love to read them. I'm picking up al sorts of ideas and tips from this forum.

Thanks to the mods for all their effort.
10  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: When is a 186 worn out? on: October 30, 2006, 10:17:59 PM
I've emailed Gas Research for some info and I'm still waiting. I'll ring them if I don't hear from them in the next few days. (It's been a week already).

Stinky,  I hope you remember to update when the conversions done, I'd be really interested to hear how it goes.

FCcool 59,  ACL race series includes the Hyperlite forged pistons that they make for Holden 202's. Would their cast race series pistons be up to the job? I'm betting their seriously cheaper.

Any other advice (except put an 8 in it) would be gratefully accepted. This is my first serious engine build and I don't want to make stupid mistakes by not asking the right questions.

60 Thou is getting a little risky , full race motors rarely go further except for Canadian  Grin block's
I think personally your getting a bit inchyEH , Red blocks are pretty easy to find  so why risk it , even blue n black blocks are easy to find with all the good internals and 12 ports

Thanks Harko, I thought as much.
Would you have any idea what compression I can run with straight  LPG? I have heard you can run higher compression but no-one seems to be able to  tell me how high.

I was going to use ACL forged pistons (dished) but I would like to know if I should then get a little more machined off to lower compression. Or would you know of blower pistons I can source.

Thanks for your help.
12  Technical Board / Modification Help / When is a 186 worn out? on: October 28, 2006, 12:45:45 AM
Rebuilding my 186. When I stripped it down I found it was already +0.60" (rebuilt before I bought it).

Can I rebuild this block? There don't appear to be any marks in the bores or any scoring.

I'm rebuilding with black 202 crank,  rods,  head and VK injector manifold on a SC14 blower (8psi boost),  running LPG only.

I don't want to do the work to find the block isn't strong enough.
13  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 13, 2006, 02:17:25 AM
Thanks Mark,
That gives me some contacts to start with. P&P did some work on my EH for the first rebuild 16 yrs ago!

I'll definitely be going to the Rod show. I've had it marked on the calendar for weeks. Plan to take the camera and notepad and get as many ideas as I can.

Can I just say I have got more info from this forum in a couple of days than I have from others in months. Thanks to the moderators and contributors.
14  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 12, 2006, 10:35:20 PM
When you prepped the block for the black head did you fill the extra water galleries? I've heard some people rely on the head gasket to block them off but this seems a bit risky.

I'll probably end up getting the machining, etc. done in Wagga so if anyone knows of a good shop there I'd love the heads up.

My ideas for my final driveline setup are:
Black 202 head (cleaned up but stock except for LPG valves, seats and guides)
Black 202 crank, rods
ACL pistons
SC14 blower
Gas Reasearch LPG carby and cam
Custom headers with 2.5" single system
Aussie 4 speed (a bit of weak link so we'll see)
Salisbury diff (shortened and with discs)

Any comments /  suggestions?
15  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 12, 2006, 03:05:36 AM
I'm in Temora, central NSW.

I was thinking the 2bbl manifold would be extremely inefficient and the efi manifold is obviously a better design. I was toying with the idea of making my own inlet manifold based on the design of the VK EFI.

My 186 is already +.060. I'm not looking for really high boost and hp figures just a good strong torquey motor that will be fun to drive. I know the sc14 setup is for a generally stock motor but as you said it's easy to setup.

Do you run the EFI or just use the manifold?
16  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 11, 2006, 11:50:50 PM
I was looking at the ACL pistons but their web site doesn't list any for a 186. That's why I was curious about the 202 pistons.
If I could pick a black 202 that would give me the head, crank and rods. The head is still a 12 port on the black motors?

At last real advise! Cheesy
17  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 11, 2006, 02:10:35 AM
Thanks Addo,
I forgot about the pins.
I'm still having trouble finding new performance parts for a 186,  it seems this venerable block has dropped off the performance radar.
Any suggestions for suitable pistons for a low boost (8-9 psi) blower?? Roll Eyes
18  Technical Board / Modification Help / 186 / 202 pistons on: September 10, 2006, 11:14:32 AM
I know the red 186 and 202 have the same bore but can you use 202 pistons in a 186 with its shorter stroke?
I'm rebuilding my 186 with a CRS blower and am starting to think about crank, rod and piston combos.
I'll be using a blue/black 202 12 port head and modifying the water jacket holes in the block. I'm not looking for huge H.P. just enough to punt my EH a bit harder. I've tried other forums but i find this one has more real information and less of the d***head factor.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Smiley

why dont you buy a volvo diff from a 244 pre 1986 for $180 from the wreckers....same width same stud pattern and comes with DISCS.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I didn't see a reason to start a new one on the same topic. I would love to hear more about the Volvo conversion as I've heard of people doing it for EH's as well.
Is the track width the same and what are some of the available ratios?
