1  General / Events, Shows etc / Re: ALL HOLDEN DAY AT THE 'BAY' on: March 02, 2003, 05:14:57 AM
Is there a contact for the SA All Holden Day to find out more about the day and the people behind it?
Thanks
Steve
2  General / Events, Shows etc / Re: Victorian All Holden Day... excellent ! on: March 02, 2003, 04:45:34 AM
What can NSW AHD do to top the Victorian one??? (!!!!)

If you have suggestions, please post em to http://www.fefcholden.org.au/cgi-bin/ahd/YaBB.cgi

I'll start a poll for the Model/Club display idea. Used to be by model many years ago. I think it changed to incorporate the clubs more readily.

Keep the ideas coming please

Steve

Hi All
I was also at the meeting last night and have taken on the position of President (I don't know why I subject myself to pain!!!)

Thanks Wayne for your comments, and thanks Wayne for volunteering to help with the trade stands in 2003. Thanks also to Richard for his advice and assistance.

There are a few unfilled Committee positions, and a lot of jobs that will need to be done. We will be meeting again to "handover" in Feb, and will start to really move forward from there. (Email or message me if you are interested in attending or can spare some time to assist in ANY way) Every little bit helps.

well done to the outgoing committee and we look forward to a fantastic 2003 AHD

The 2003 NSW All Holden Day is under threat following the retirement of the key members of the organising committee.
There will be a special General Meeting on December 4th at Holdens Limited, 3/5 Talavera Rd, North Ryde to discuss event plans and to elect new committee members.
If we do not raise our hands and get involved there will be no future All Holden Days in NSW.
Contact David on 0414 449 275 (in evenings) or visit the new site at http://ahdnsw.tripod.com/allholdenday/index.html

General Motors started in Australia in 1926, Holden marked the 50th anniversary of GM In Australia with the "50th Anniversary" HX. They neglected to commemorate the 75th Anniversary last year due to commitments with other models (Monaro, SS-50, etc).
Shame, though!

Thanks to all those who attended, supported and helped promote the Lions Pride Super Car Show in 2002. The event was a huge success, and although we didn't raise enough to buy an oxygen Monitor for the neo-natal section of Nepean hospital, the $3,000 (odd) dollars we raised will certainly help bridge the Gap.
The $300 raised for Riverstone Community Refief Fund will be appreciated also.

Thanks Again
See you at next years show (Yes plans have already started!!!)

I am glad that SOMEONE is as passionate about All Holden Day (NSW) as I am, regardless of opinions about various "Activities" at AHD, there is very little passion. In the 12 months since the website (http://www.ahd.oldholden.com) went live, there has been more than 6000 hits. Yet this is the FIRST TIME anyone has provided real feedback. DONT STOP NOW!!!
I like Ken's comments about presentation. Presentation is probably the single most important element in my limited experience, and I cite a very good example of this. There is an Annual Street Machine show near Rouse Hill in NSW. At the show there are many varients of Street machines, from Rice burners, to Muscle cars, 9 second drag cars and low riders - IE. most elements of the sport were represented. In one corner of the show sat an early model Corolla coupe. It was freshly painted and had mags on it. It was in a position that people could think that it MAY not be an exhibition vehicle. You get the idea. I approached the vehicle to find one of the most HIGHLY DETAILED vehicles that I have seen for a long time. Great trim, An even coat of paint (Or two!) and simple chrome wheels, lots of detail in the engine bay, even bolts were cleaned and detailed. The brakes were standard looking, but once again clean and tidy. This was probably the car of the show for my money: Simple yet you could see the TIME and EFFORT that had been invested in the car. No Huge 22" mags, Brembo brakes, switch paint or $15,000 stereos here. LOTS of elbow and dedication and a decent bit of planning and focus.
I thought not much more about the car after the show, until I bumped into a friend that was an entrant at the show in his (With all due repect) ruff and tuff drag car. We were chatting about the show and things and he commented that the corolla had won a trophy; "Have you seen it?'... "No, But corolla's shouldn't win trophies (Blah Blah Blah!)"
It beat some of the Summernats winners PURELY for it's detail, and in my opinion, deservedly so.
The moral is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. SOMEONE has to establish some clear and simple judging AND scrutineering guidelines to establish a base for ALL shows.

Personally I dislike "Sponsor Trophies" as the ONLY method of judging, however, given the lack of support from the Holden Community in the running of the NSW AHD, there will not (I assume) any change in the future.

PLEASE COMMENT!!!!

On the subject of ALL HOLDEN DAY's.
What is the general perception of the judging for the NSW ALL HOLDEN DAY?Huh?
Does "Sponsor Judging" over come the pain of individual "Quality" Judging??? Or does this inflame the matter. ALL Responses APPRECIATED.
Steve
