Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Sand Blasting

OK thanks.... so mainly back to elbow grease. 2 questions then How do you get the black stuff off the insides of the panels? Where do you get walnut grit and will it work with the gun from bunnings ie what nozzle size suits walnut grit?
Cost effectiveness. Presumeably that i screen how much would i need to order to do the two front guards edges, apron, backs of bumpers, grill surround and two doors??. I would paintstrip the flat bits and sand them off.

Just testing the waters because I have never done this before ![Undecided](http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/Smileys/default/undecided.gif) .... has anyone tried to do this themselves. Someone gave me a kit from bunnings and i thought that i would try it out on the backs of the guards and the front end to clean them up. I have a good strong compressor so that is not an issue. I know I'll have to screen pretty well... But how much and what sort of sand does it use ![Huh](http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/Smileys/default/huh.gif) Nick

Hey FC 1958, Thats my old FC> I can't believe it. I had it about 20 years ago and bought it as a wreck! I sold it to a guy how blew up the motor and he just abandoned it! It was a great car back then. I was thinking about it the other day cos it had original number plate surrounds.... not any more! Its not the original interior obviously but it still looks in pretty good shape! Got some pictures that i will have to scan. Where do you live?? Regards Nick

While its off I was going to replace all the replacables SO.... my question is..... what is replaceable what is serviceable and where do you get it.. Tie rod ends etc??. I know rares sell some of the items but not all.
When does the kingpin require changing. ie whats the test for too much movement???
Thanks... all answers read with gusto.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Windscreen installation

Thanks Ken What is the timing for the application of the sealant? If you say that i may have to take the screen back out... there is going to be sealant all over the place. The manual says that you lay down the sealant in the lip of the seal that fits into the channel on the car body window opening. Then put in the cord as you say and then push in the window from the outside whilst removing the cord from the inside. Nick

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Windscreen installation
|
on: July 06, 2009, 09:17:21 AM

OK... I've read the treads on putting in a new windcreen and I plan to do it myself. I did one once before (20 years) so i'm a little bit confident. That was a standard without the jewellery. I've got half the jewellery on at the moment and taping in in place. Does anyone have some further advice/encouragement to offer ? Nick

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Brake Light switch wiring.
|
on: June 29, 2009, 08:16:55 AM
|
Hi Ken There is one white wire coming out of the steering column and then there is a Orange (?) wire and a black wire both of which come from the rear stop lamps.
The wiring diagram shows one of the leads serving the dome light and in the dash instrument light?? Both show double connectors but nothing seems to fit except one direct feed from the black wire to the light switch ( I think ) On the wiring diagram there is also a back up light switch??? What is that? Regards Nick??

Howdy all. I'm trying to work out my wiring. There are two black wires coming out of the brake light swith. Could somebody please tell where they connect to. In the Station sedan the wiring in the manual says that the brake light bake up colour is light green.... but mine is yellow. Would this be a PM or a variation. Regards Not Happy Jan (Her not me)

Hi everyone I'm allowed one really basic ( stupid) question??? So here goes When replacing ( or in my case installing) my bulbs for the headlights and the blinkers/brake lights etc what bulbs do I ask for. My sockets are empty so I can't take one up to show to replace it. Is this a dumb question as most parts places would know what I need??? Thanks in advance Nick

Technical Board / Restoration Help / 1/4 VENT RIVET
|
on: June 11, 2009, 01:54:54 PM
|
Howdy All I was after some advice/clarification? I have just re-furbed my 1/4 vent and I bought a rivet set from Rare Spares. Problem is is that the rivet does not fit nicely in either the stabilized hole on the frame of the 1/4 vent nor into the smaller diameter hole on the window pane arm. Do you have to drill these holes out to fit the rivet or is there some knack to installing the rivet and secondly, how does one crimp the rivet then once it fits nicely? Thanks in advance! Nick.
