OK Boys.. and girls
I just saw this item on ebay (230440523956) and I was wondering if
1. Its a good deal and 2. Does one need disc brakes,
I remember that my old FC ( 20 years ago) was OK on drum brakes.
I'm just wondering if the 1200 bucks could be spent on some rust repairs etc
Any thoughts, expressions etc most appreciated.
Hard to offend!

So tune up my welding and panel fabrications skills!
I know its not much when I see some of the basket cases that get to undergo a full transformation.
Thanks for the advice!
866  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Rust on: December 11, 2009, 01:47:07 PM

Hi All
This is a picture of my subframe drivers side where I'm trying to sort out the rust issue!
The spring is for the brake hose.
Is this section replaceable as a unit or do I have to replace the whole sub frame or get it cut out/cut it out myself etc etc.
The dilemma is is that I think I would have to drop the engine to get to that section properly. And if I do that then I don;t think that i could stop and then the whole car would have to be stripped and I would never make it to nationals. Not much chance at the moment anyway!
Its got another bad section of rust in the pillars on the front door hinges and bits here and there.

I'm just struggling for direction and any advice and or encouragement appreciated!

Took it all apart again on the weekend and refitted it without the coin shaped spacer on the pitman arm side just to see the fit.
Much better as I could fit the locking nut and the split pin..... but that is without the tin cup and the spacer???
Are the tin cups still available??
The drag link kit was purchased from ebay and measured up the same.. The last time i did one it was not quite a drama! I don't get it?
I think I might take it to someone!!! Any ideas or just the local steering guy.
869  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Front end refurb on: September 26, 2009, 06:43:03 AM
Thanks Ken
The spacers that I refer to are a bit bigger than a 1 coin
And sit against the indents in the drag tube
The thin metal cups are worn beyond reuse?
I think that I have an ek upper wish bone . Are they interchangeable?
Also do you pack the tube with grease to reinstall or just grease thru nipple?
870  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Front end refurb on: September 25, 2009, 07:07:08 AM
Am in the process of replacing worn front Tongue Huh end components
Two problems this far
1. I bought a upper wishbone to replace mine because the holder for the rubber stopper was missing
The one from ozwreck is NOS but has a different sized/shaped stopper
Did they make acouple of styles of thevwishbone???
2. Drag link. I put a kit through mine but in taking out the old components but there is a couple of thin cups and 2 spacers that are not supplied with the new kit.
On putting it back without the cups but with spacers the lock screw sits proud of the end andthe split pin won't fit
Do the spacers stay out Huh
Any advice please??? Tongue Tongue Huh

876  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: It's raining and my FC leaks!! on: July 31, 2009, 06:45:44 PM
I am also in the process of installing new rubbers all round in an effort to keep the insides dry! The bottom tail gate corners just looks like a perfect catchment point for the spare wheel well!. I have used an aftermarket seal on the top of the tail gate but there is still plenty of room on the outer ends. From my under standing that seal is no longer available??

Question?.... Can an FC wagon be made watertight from rain. Front screen should be ok if done properly. Tell you next week! But rear opening and doors??. From memory my last FC 20 years ago and FC1958's new project was pretty dry.

If it can't keep it dry then  a carpet is just going to be a floor pan demolisher?? Who has carpet and who has vinyl?Huh

878  Technical Board / General Technical / Loose Steering wheel on: July 29, 2009, 09:59:50 PM
Hi All

Could somebody please offer a cause and a remedy??

879  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Spacers for front end refurb on: July 29, 2009, 08:05:54 PM
Great thanks Ken
I was just going to replace the pivot pins upper and lower and the bushes on the inners.
At this stage I was going to leave the drag link assembly and the king pins.Huh? Change the idler arm. New wheel cylinders and pads. New shocks ( which do you recommend??) New Tie Rods ( any luck with the search??). I bought a parts manual. They are good!!!
Once I've done that and paint it all up I just need to fix the wiring issue with the brake lights, install windscreen and it should pass a full rego check.
How hard is it to get it tuned properly. Timing mainly?? At the moment it runs well but a bit rough. I actually have only driven it about 300 metres but it kicks and idles pretty well.

880  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Spacers for front end refurb on: July 29, 2009, 11:44:34 AM
Hi All
The manual says to use spacers when reinstalling the upper and lower pins on the king pin holder.
Are these available..... or is there a knack for installing Huh
