Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Right fuel for FE grey motor ?

I use standard unleaded fuel and pour Flashlube in the tank at every fill. I read somewhere that standard fuel can be used on engines with a compression ratio of 8.86:1 or less. Premium fuel is ideal for higher compression or performance engines.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Oil pressure light on
|

Rather than crank the engine over for too long without oil pressure. Remove distributor and oil pressure switch.Fit oil pressure gauge. Fit an old distributor shaft minus the gear to a drill and turn the oil pump. If you don't have a gauge watch for oil coming out of the oil pressure switch gallery. If you have no oil squirting out the fault may be the oil pump or a blockage. You can also watch for oil at the rocker shafts if you decide not to remove the oil pressure switch. This is a great way to prime an engine to ensure instant oil pressure.

Hi Guy's, Does anyone know if a Panel van or well body ute chassis is the same length as a one ton chassis and can it replace the one ton chassis? I know the one ton chassis is different on the side just behind the cab.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Bosch Distributor in FC Grey motor
|
on: July 02, 2009, 11:53:43 PM

Hi All, GB504 contact points are no longer made by Bosch. You can use GB529 which are the same except the terminal on the end of wire is a female type and not a horse shoe shape type. Just cut it off and solder the right terminal on and lengthen wire if necessary or modify the connection that goes through the distributor body to accept GB529's as they are. In my opinion at least you still have a good quality Bosch product. You can buy them in Champion, part # S4V but in my opinion they do not last as long as the Bosch even with a new condenser fitted. Condolences to Norms family on behalf of the WA Club. I've "spoken" on line with Norm when I first joined the Forum and followed his Topics with interest. What more can you say, a bloke that was liked by all. May you rest in peace.
