Obituary printed in the London Times.....Absolutely Dead Brilliant!!
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isn't always fair; - And maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
He declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, -by his parents, Truth and Trust, -by his wife, Discretion, -by his daughter, Responsibility, -and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers; - I Know My Rights - I Want It Now - Someone Else Is To Blame - I'm A Victim - Pay me for Doing Nothing
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
Kind regards Sebastiano Rafala MIAME Scrutineer FE-FC Holden Car Club of WA (Inc)

Hi Simon, The last time I spoke to (approx 2 years ago)Mark Bone of Mandurah Performance he was saying that the largest capacity engine that could be fitted without an engineers certificate is a 161 cubic inch. Dept of Transport keep changing the rules from I've been told so go by what documents they give you and complete it by the allocated time frame.

Technical Board / General Technical / Part Number for Diff Pinion seal
|
on: April 01, 2012, 01:49:21 AM
|
Hi Guys, Can anyone provide me with a part number for a Diff pinion seal to suit an FC. I don't think an original part number would be any use unless it can be cross referenced with an aftermarket part number. I know there is a difference between FC and FB/EK diff pinion seals. Found that out when replacing my brother diff pinion seal on his FC. Need to order a seal for fredyyc when he arrives in Perth.

Hi Fred, I'll order a diff pinion seal for you. Are you certain you have an FC diff? The FC pinion seal dimensions are different to other "grey" diffs. Found this out when I did my brothers pinon seal. Kind regards Sebastiano Rafala MIAME Scrutineer FE-FC Holden Car Club of WA (Inc) Ph: 0419 813 086

Hi Guys, I've just got some feed back from one of our members who has contacted the Immediate Past President from the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA Inc. The information given states that any licenced vehicle that can be driven in its home state on a restriction can be driven in WA.Providing you adhere to the restrictions on your registration your vehicle is deemed legal in WA. Hope this helps out.

Hi Guys,
I spoke to 3 people in the Department before I could speak to someone who could help me out.
I got a return call from Department of Transport and spoke to Chris who is involved in concessional licence (Code 404/club licence). The best information he could give me is that the Victorian car clubs on the Red Plate scheme (45/90 day registration type permit scheme) write to Department of Transport outlining how the scheme works/is set up and they will give you a ruling if ok or not in WA.
He could not provide me with a contact person or email address, only an address as below;

Box R 1290

Hi Guys, Below is a cut and paste of a letter from DPI dating back 2007. It is to be updated soon on a new letter head since department name change. I'll forward Surferboy with the official letter so it can be posted here. Regards Seb AIS/Defect Notice Section 21 Murray Road South Welshpool WA 6106 Telephone (08) 9351 1670 20 January 2007 Council of Motoring Clubs of WA PO Box 742 SUBIACO WA 6904 The Secretary Thank you for your inquiry requesting information on WA recognition of concessional licences in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth. I confirm that vehicles registered in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth licensed under a Historic Conditional Registration Scheme can be driven in Western Australia without any need for a permit or any other special arrangements. This is provided for under the WA Road Traffic Act 1974 Part III Licensing of vehicles, part 15, which states: 15. Vehicle licences (6) For the purposes of the provisions of this section a vehicle licence or equivalent document issued in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth for a vehicle of which the owner is not ordinarily resident within the State of Western Australia shall, during the currency of the licence, be deemed to be a vehicle licence under this Act in respect of the vehicle when used on any road within the State of Western Australia. Essentially, this is because the vehicle is actually registered, and not just being driven on a permit. Please note that registration plates and labels are required to be affixed, and it is helpful if the owner carried the registration papers with them. If you have any questions or need any further information please contact me on (08) 9351 1671, or email adrian.odea@dpi.wa.gov.au. Yours sincerely Adrian ODea Acting Co-ordinator

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: What Oil to use to run my motor in ??
|
on: July 26, 2011, 12:22:38 AM
|
Hey FE 4 ME, If your going to run in your motor I would recommend running in oil which is a straight 30 weight. Fill the oil filter with oil and squirt some oil in the cylinders prior to starting. The motor would need to fast idle at 2000 RPM for 20 minutes to "bed in" the cam and lifters. Make sure you keep an eye on coolant temperature and oil pressure at this stage. Squirt some oil down the carby every few minuets to lube the valves and top of cylinder bores. Then after some tuning adjustments drive it at varying loads to "bed in" the piston rings. I usually find a steep hill and drive up at full throttle in a high gear at lower speeds to expand the rings against the bores to make maximum contact. Starting from a standing start at various loads also helps. I've done this many times without any problems. After approx 1000 kms I would change the oil and filter. I use Gulf Western 20w-50. That's my personal preference. I am in no way associated with the oil company or its agents. Hope this helps you out.
Regards Seb
