204  General / General Board / Re: Engine Number on: June 15, 2004, 02:14:55 PM
Thanks Mike, could always do with some spares.
205  General / General Board / Re: Engine Number on: June 14, 2004, 12:01:45 PM
I'll take the gear box as mine is a little noisy.
Would you trade it for a container of engine oil if its still available.
I can pick it up at the next Meeting on Tuesday 13th July or from your place on the night.
My phone number is 0419 813 086.

If i'm not mistaken HK rims are offset closer to the ball joints (inwards). HG/T rims are offset outwards.

Craig, i've looked everywhere for the badge and can't find it. It must be somewhere safe where it won't get lost.(sic)

Regards Seb  - Saver of hard to get parts.

209  General / General Board / Re: Evolution of the Holden, 48-215 to VY on: March 29, 2004, 02:28:32 AM
First Experiment, Fine Classic.
I would have to agree with GMH, it is an improved model, and a better looking car.(here we go again)

Use a windscreen sealer to stop water entry. It always stays soft/sticky.
When washing cars i found that using comressed air to blow the water out of various moulds and tim saves time on drying the car and not having water streaks after driving.
Also handy to blow water out of the doors through the drain holes.

211  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 on: March 29, 2004, 01:02:08 AM
The "S" stands for steel crank.
I was told by my TAFE lecturer (all those years ago) its the only difference between 186 and 186S.
I have not read any documentation on this and will stand corrected.
I have worked on many 186S engines in the past on the HK to HG series and most of them were the standard single carby and exhaust.

I think the down side is that parts would be too hard to machine if you ever have to do any repairs.

213  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Hadfield Chassis Kit on: March 29, 2004, 12:43:10 AM
The April 2004 edition of Street Machine, page 130 shows the CRS Chassis Kit fitted to a EK ute with red 6 cyl and VN/VP TH700 auto.
The only difference to the Kit  compared to the V8 Kit is that the V8 Kit has Y frame plates sandwiched between the HR crossmember and the chassis rails.
This is where the short rail connections supplied bolt up to.
On the 6 cyl Kit the short rail connections bolt up the the original chassis Y frame.
In my opinion i would use the V8 Kit especially if you have a high HP 6 cyl and comes with a re-enforced HR crossmember.
Latter on you can change over to V8 running gear as your hunger for HP increases without having to "re-engineer" the car.

Mis-spelt  Grin ULD should read ULP.
215  General / General Board / Re: can some one please advise me on: March 24, 2004, 03:45:45 AM
U can run on LRP but you may have to use a hotter s/plug and slighty retard the timing.
U can also use normal ULD and add a upper cyl lube, such as Flash Lube.
High Octain Fuel is not normally needed for Low Compression engines.
Usually engines with a Compression Ratio of 8.86:1 or greater should run on the higher octain fuel.

216  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Losing Charge on: March 18, 2004, 12:11:54 AM
CAUTION, don't disconnect battery lead with engine running. This can blow the diodes in the alternator.
If your charge light is always ON then you have a faulty diode causing the battery to discharge when it's not in use.

217  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: creaking clutch pedal on: March 17, 2004, 07:23:01 AM
G'Day Gary,
You will find that the creaking noise is the large return spring.
Lube both ends of the spring. It's usually the end connected to the pedal.
Use black moly grease or Never Sieze.

218  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: CANADIAN BLOCK FOR SALE ! on: March 16, 2004, 10:47:13 AM
It's actually a prototype MOO-LOO UTE VOLUMETRIC EFFEICIENCY AIR INTAKE SYSTEM (VEAIS) as found years ago at a GMH Dealership.
I've kept it all this time to fit to an FC ute which i purchased 4 weeks ago.
It's a shame the original paint and decals have perished, but at least i've got one, its rarer than a Canadian Block, and thanks to Kiwi for posting the photo.
All i have to do now is find a MOO-LOO tailgate with a recessed provision fof the number plate.

He's my 5 cents worth.
Buy the First Experimental car then get yourself a Fine Classic.

What size is the battery?
I would'nt be using anything less than a 440CCA if the battery is located in the boot.
