Technical Board / General Technical / Re: stuck clutch
|
on: October 25, 2004, 10:58:33 AM

If the clutch pedal is hard to push down you will find that the flexible clutch hose has collapsed internally, restricting the fluid flow to the slave cylinder. If this is the case then you will find that when bleeding the hydraulics the fluid does'nt flow as freely when you open the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder. If the clutch fork shows little movement and the pedal is hard replace the hose, it may still be the original.

I would use 80/90 gear oil for the crash box, 20w-50 SG grade for the low milage red, Up to 140 grade gear oil for the worn diff, 25w-60 for the 'hot' red.

I was told the 253 V8 HR export was a test mule before it was released here. Yes I'm positive i read 253 and not 283. Is it normal to wait up to two years before its release in Australia? Seb

I remember reading somewhere during my appreticeship years that HR wagons were exported to South Africa fitted with a 253 V8 and Opel 4 speed gear box. My boss at the time was surprised i found this info because not too many Mechanics knew of this at the time. In the same book only Export HQ's had 138 red motors fitted, LC Torana motors i believe.

Came across an FB wagon with engine #260377, no letter in front of #. Was it a new block and what size engine is it, or is it from an earlier or latter grey powered Holden ?

Mint looking van, if you decide to change the plates could you try swaping or trading them with a Club Member first so as to keep those plates 'alive'.

General / General Board / FC ute on TV show 'Cruzin'
|
on: July 30, 2004, 03:04:54 PM

Watching Cruzin on telly the other night. Nice FC ute owned by a guy called Dominic who ended up buy his dads ute after it had passed through the hands of at least 3 owners and restoring it. His dad originally purchased the ute new in August 1959. Here are numbers for Ken, ID plate was shown so i guess it's public info now.
FC 2106-4892-A Trim 196-650 Paint 259-2100 RPO blank TOP blank
WA Rego (original) UFX 254 No engine or chassis # shown but he did say it was assembled in Perth. Dominic said that they were only assembled in Perth and QLD, is this true? Letter of city at end of chassis #, P for Perth and i would presume B for Brisbane.

The centre hole is correct on the acc lever from memory. Has it got stale fuel? Do you get a good squirt of fuel down the carby if you pump the accelerator with the engine off? If not check the acc pump circuit. If it runs better with a larger main jet it may indicate you may have a vacuum leak or faulty PCV valve. If it has a PCV kit fitted, i assume it's just like the Red motor PCV system. PCV valve in the rocker cover and hose at the base of the carby and a non vented oil filler cap. If this is the case disconnect and plug it, however make sure the crankcase is vented with the original breather cap and side pipe and test drive it. If you have an improvement then you may have a faulty PCV valve. With the engine running, disconnect the PCV valve and the rev's should drop by approx 50 rpm as you place thumb over valve, and you should hear the valve "click". The engine should run roughly with your thumb off the valve. When running with the new PCV set up, are you using a non vented oil filler cap? Hope this helps.

Yes i've been told its a rare find. The poor old bugger i bought it off is'nt poor, i paid top dollar for it. Yes it does have the original uncracked factory tyres on it,the owners and service manual, a Scientific Publications manual FE to FB all in mint condition and the large FB worksop manual.
