102  Technical Board / General Technical / Repair old water pump on: February 27, 2012, 05:48:56 PM
I just fitted a new water pump (from Rares) and wondering if the old water pump is worth repairing to keep as a spare.   Grin

The reason for fitting a new water pump was because the old one was leaking through the seal.  Now it's off the car it looks to be in good condition.

If it's worth repairing ....... where in Melbourne (South Eastern suburbs)?

I made the bracket in 2mm aluminium to a template provided by Tony, prez of the Vic club. Yes I might paint it black or blue after the Nationals

Thanks Darcy and thanks John253a, I took your advice.  Went to Autobarn and Repco to see what they had in mechanical gauges.  Repco has this 20% off for RACV members for Feb so got this pair there for $48.00.  Bargain!!!

And thanks Tony for the bracket,   Grin   I decided to make it in aluminium.  Hmmm ..... not sure, might paint it black later!!!!

Cheers, Kevin

112  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Starte Motor problems on: January 21, 2012, 08:31:29 PM
Thanks everyone, I checked the ignition switch and it appears that it is returning OK.

So tomorrow the starter will come out to lubricate the shaft, thanks Ken.
113  Technical Board / General Technical / Starte Motor problems on: January 21, 2012, 12:22:08 PM
Just when you think you've covered everything ...... something else goes wrong.   Angry

Started the FC Ute yesterday and the starter motor continued to run for a short time even after the engine started.  My car usually starts first kick.  Turned it off and tried again, same thing but this time it didn't stop after a few seconds and I had to lift the bonnet and turn off the battery switch. It did it a few more times, so I gave up.

This morning before turning the battery switch back on I turned the ingnition swith on and off a dozen times and tried again.  And it's back to normal.  But now I don't trust it.

Could it be the ignition switch or the solenoid or the starter motor?  Considering it continued to run when the ignition was turned off fully, my thought was it must be the solenoid.

Any thoughts!

Thanks Alex.

Thanks Gary, that's interesting to know.  I calculated (for a rough budget) fuel at $2.00 per litre so anything under that will be a bonus.

I got a 3.55 diff,  Grin  I'll be putting that in for the drive to Perth.

Can it bolt straight in or do I have to change anything??

Got one .......... thanks!!!!!   Grin
117  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Cluster Gear wanted on: January 16, 2012, 03:07:39 PM
Does anyone have a new (wishful thinking  Grin ) Cluster gear for my FC Ute gear box or any clues as to where to source one.  I'm getting ready to drive to the WA Nationals and as my gear box makes a few unwelcome noises from time to time I thought I'd recondition another box and do a quick change over.  However the cluster gear has too much erosion on too many teeth to put it back.   Sad

I'll also consider a second hand one in excellent condition.

Cheers, Kevin

Check your timing.  Retarded could cause it to overheat.
119  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Driving from Melbourne to Perth on: December 22, 2011, 08:47:45 AM
Many thanks Ken.

Has anyone got a 3.36 diff for sale?   Grin

Driving from Melbourne to Perth across the Nullabor in an FC Ute, what would the best diff ratio be to keep the engine revs down but still be drivable around Perth.

And how do you tell what diff ratio you have already?
