I'm sure thats the FE i rarely seen around the Fremantle/Spearwood area. Is the paint lighter than the photo actually shows. If it is the one i'm thinking it's very straight with minor rust bubbles that hasn't gone through the paint. Which wrecking yard did you buy it from?

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: battery in boot

If you really have to fit the battery in the boot at least fit a completly sealed one or one with a vent tube like the BMW's and Merc's. The battery would also have to have a higher CCA rating to allow for some volt drop. You also wouldn't want a cell to short out creating explosive gases which could enter the cab or worst still, ignite via a boot light switch.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: which rims will fit ?
|

Hey Surferboy, Normally you would change the rear brakes to HR when you have a HR front end. Whether you have FC or HR rear brakes then the 13 inch HR rims would fit, 14 inch HG rims would fit on the front but not sure on the Rear. Don't fit EH rims to FC drums because they distort the drum and lock up your brakes before you even let the jack down. You can fit the wider ROH 13 inch rims which are the early stud pattern up to HR. These will not distort FC drums because the inner face of the rim has clearance to mount away from the "bumps" on the FC drum. Clear as mud. Give me a call if like anytime.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: MIG WELDER -SIZE DOES MATTER?
|
on: August 19, 2006, 11:44:27 AM

I'm in the market for a mig welder. i'm thinking either Lincoln 170 or Cigweld Transmig 165. Does the gasless mig perform better than the one on gas? I know the gasless flux core welding wire is more than 3 times more expensive than gas welding wire. I've seen disposable gas bottles that you can buy at Repco for $30.00, about the size of a small 0.9kg fire extinguisher that are used with a special matching regulator for $50.00. Anyone have any experience with these and how long would the gas last? I intend to use the mig for panel work, exhaust and welding steel up to 6mm thick. Thanks in advance.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Regulators

Just a wild guess, maybe the Reg on a Ute had a different rating due to stop start driving being a work horse, then again the Sedan would be used as a shopping so same driving conditions. I know that Utes that where used as a Milko vehicle had a different size generator pulley to keep the charge rate up due to low rev's and short driving distances.

Hey Blacky, I've seen a VN v6 in a Rod without p/s and the belt was a slightly tight fit but the owner had no problems with anything breaking, ie water pump/alt bearings. The only thing is on one of the driven pullys from memory the grooves of the belt are face down with no abnormal wear. I made a mental note of the part number but forgot. I know the part number ended in ##55. Hope this helps.

Usually any Mechanic or Brake specialist can do the job. Best if you supply all the donor parts yourself and then have them reconditioned. If your interested i can give you the name of a Mechanic in Myaree, he use to race EH Holdens.
