Title: Need some Headlights Post by: griffo on July 28, 2005, 11:07:36 AM Need some help on replacing or restoring the Lights in my soon to be on the road FE. ;D
what type of replacement is used ? , I went to a shop and found that the H4 semi sealed beams have a flat face which is different to the original and the sealed beams which have a domed face dont have a parking light ( or is this wired in as part of the lamp ) is there a particular brand to buy or can I restore the original which has become dull and stained on the inside. any ideas ? We use it on our glass kettle and it cleans up really well.

H4's are flat, but vintage bulbs can do halogen bulbs to suit your original glass. I think the park lights are visible thru a clear section in the reflector, behind which sits a little park light bulb. HTH Ed Title: Re: Need some Headlights Post by: kma on July 29, 2005, 06:16:47 AM Griffo,
You could install a double filliament globe socket in the front indicators, parkers and indicators together just the same as stop lights and parkers in the rear. A bit of rewireing would be required. If you do this make sure to use frosted lenses not amber. cheers from Kevin O Title: Re: Need some Headlights Post by: mcl1959 on July 29, 2005, 06:54:14 AM Griffo, You should be able to purchase original looking sealed beam headlights with park light "windows" in them. You then get Torana electrical plugs which have a globe holder built in which when powered, lights up through the window in the headlight.

I had a chat to the guy at Vintage bulbs (who also sell reflectors), and he gave me some good info on new versus old lights which made sense. The old dull reflectors are affected by age and water ingress, this has a tendency to penetrate the reflector surface and eventually dull it and maybe lift it off. personally I would scout about for a new set (unless you after a concourse restoration). new lights look so nice, even when they are not on :) the same shine and colour etc etc. all the same... hit em up with the CLR first and see what happens! Try headlights from HQ series Holden the series with orange front blinker lenses, not the earlier HQ series with clear blinkers as they had headlamps with the parkers lamp behind them, also the flat H4's you where looking at should come with the hole already for the parker bulbs. Lots of HQ holdens around so a headlamp should not be that hard to find.
