Thanks, the idea was to use as much of  the donor commodore as possible and keep it low budget, if thats possible in this hobby!!!
The good part is that now its driveable so I can enjoy it as it gets finshed off.

Hey sgo,

Nice work so far. Did you use a Berlina for the mods? I noticed you've got the cruise control set-up but no elec aerial, and exec seats?
I'm looking at doing similar mods to a ute or van so this gives me a good idea of what I'm in for...  ::)
Keep the updates rolling in!!

The donor car was an executive but somewhere along the line cruise had been added and the right dash switches included.
All berlina goodies would be nice!!

because all berlinas had cruise.ican supply berlina r/h
binnacle switch.i can also supply l/h trip computer biinacle and that will allow a calais dash to be wired up
with a patch harness i have. i can even do it for u if you are in melbourne.call brad at commwreck on 03 9330 3600

sorry i just looked at the right hand binnacle again
it has cruise but no aerial as someone has pointed out
i can supply the aerial up and down buttons and the l/h hsv binnacle and cluster if required as i said before to make a calais dash work.pretty easily

The instruments are pretty basic as is, what cost is involved in a calaise set to replace the current set up?

G'day Jim, as with most mods I think there are more than one way to get the desired result. I used a sedan as a doner car and used every part that I could make fit!
As for the steering column I used the VP one but think it is too short for a comfortable driving position, so it is on my list of things to re-do.
Send me your e-mail address, to my private messages box, and I can answer more specific questions you may have.
Cheers,George.

Ed., I finally got round to fitting that glove-box lid, but covered in carbon-fibre, to match the rest of the dash.

The commodore rear seat fits, with a few inches cut out of the middle!

The rear seatbelt mounts are sorted,

Must be time to visit the engineer soon!

Hey George, That dash looks shit hot mate, an absolute credit to you considering how bad they can look when grafting new into old ,Hope you dont mind me taking a few pointers on how to obtain excelence  ;)
Do you have cruise somewhere in that engine bay ? I was thinking of putting it under the guard but not sure how it would weather and was wondering where you have placed it .
Also did you try to use the original commodore tunnel at all ,By the pics yours looks fabricated?
And wheres your handbrake ?Couldnt spot it in the original position .

G'day Harko, thanks for the comments on the dash. The cruise unit is mounted on the firewall above and behind the brake-booster. The vp booster sits forward a bit so there is some space there. You can just make it out in the photo of the engine bay.For the trans. tunnel the original opening in the floor was enlarged back to the crossmember and with the gear box in place a new tunnel mocked up in cardboard, fabricated and welded in.You can also see the crossmember has been raised to above the floor level.I think it should have gone higher for more ground clearance! On the other hand I think the photos of the commodore tunnel in FEVANV6 look cool.In the photo of the dash you can see the handbrake poking up between the seats. It's the vp handbrake and the vp cables fit without mods in this position.

cheers,George.

Hi George,

What front end set up have you got... The rack etc?

Got to have another serious look at mine, but not sure where to go with it yet.

Jason.

Title: Re: 59V6 update
Post by: sgo on March 21, 2006, 05:46:43 AM
Have finally got around to visiting an engineer, got the paperwork and dropped in to VicRoads to keep them happy.
With the legalities out of the way can now concentrate on finishing all the rest.
Only have to move the radiator across to make space for an air-cond. compressor, touch up the body and do all the interior, should be complete in only a few years! :)

Long time between progress updates, but some cool  :P progress indeed.
Those 2 features should make your FC nice and cosy to cruise in.

Alex

Nice Ride sgo
You've put a lot of work into it.
Should cruise beautifully with those mods,
and in comfort too.

I do love the classic colour to, looks good.

Are the number plate frames swapped from
back to front only because the towbar, if so
I'd loose the bar & swap them back.

Is see finished of yet?
I noticed you haven't updated for a while.

looks great -  give yourself a pat on the back.   :o ;D ;D

Is that the standard VN tank in the boot?    ???
Is it a good fit or is there a lot of messing around?   ???

Title: Re: 59V6
Post by: sgo on July 13, 2007, 05:38:03 AM
Standard tank, easy fit as long as you don't mind losing the spare wheel-well and the filler neck coming out in the middle of the rear quarter "special" badge, :)

Oh, and I forgot to add that when this is finished I'm transplanting all the stock FC engine and running gear into the VP shell! ;D

Hmmm
I wander if you could enter that in the nats as super modified FC ???

We had a HSV ute at the QLD Nats with an FC Ute body grafted to it and it won the big prize.

Cheers Jim  ;) ??? ;D

Title: Kevin Rudds Conversion
Post by: sgo on July 12, 2009, 03:50:11 PM
Kevin Rudd has kindly donated $2000 to fit LPG dual fuel to the FC.
For an extra $200 it was too good to refuse :)

SGO what front end is used in the car to get power steering and what rack, intermediate shaft etc. As I am doing the same mods to my FE and have just got myself an SV3800 complete donor car for the transplants. Also intereted to know what diff etc etc.
cheers Jason

Hi Jason, rear end is stock width VB-VC v8 diff, which needs rim offset changed and maybe gaurds pumped out a bit.
Front end is HR with lower arms and pivots moved to suit a stock VP power rack. New springs are needed as well.
Intermediate shaft is stock VP and needs some extra clearance around sub-frame.
All quiet easy when you say it fast ::)
Hope your conversion goes well, cheers.

Hi Nick;
Glad you came to your senses as a fellow V6 FC I love the way the V6 feels in the car.

This is the first time that I have read your post and I would love to see the original pictures, would you be able to report them as the link no longer works.

I'm looking forward to seeing photos when you have it repainted.
