Title: What is the right size bolt..
Post by: Laszlo on June 08, 2021, 09:22:11 PM
.... for a boot emblem  ?
In the bolt and nut shop they tried to tell me I need a 12/24. Wasn't the right one. I did try a metric 4, not too bad but not perfect. A little bit loose.  Maybe just the age of the emblem and a rechroming.....

Thanks : Laszlo (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210608/7edc7c09c8ca254e4693105c4274a7dd.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210608/f6b2b4f39fde1170276a9860a92ca5ec.jpg)

check to see if somewhere in its life the thread hasn't been damaged or brutalised to make something fit ,or clogged with chrome ,carefully use a 24TPI tap to clean up...cheers Vern

Thanks Vern I will try that way.
I started to change all the bolts ,screws and nuts for stainless steel one. So if someone  has to take the Fe a part 60 years time no rusty surprises..... : )

Laszlo,

3/16" Whitworth is also 24 TPI.  OK, so the thread profile's slightly different, but it will substitute for 10-24 UNC no problem.
