OK...I'll ask the stupid question.  Why were these things always made in resin/plastic that was not very load bearing and eventually cracked. Why were they not made from some form of metal from the outset? There must be some reason otherwise I would have thought the repros should have been metal too..they seem to be perspex which I would have though would have similarly (bad) qualities..

They'd cost a fortune to cast in metal, I reckon. Bear in mind they're under compression, so the original bakelite ones are probably strong enough for the job they're intended for. Obviously they have no shear strength worth a squirt, but when fitted, even cracked ones still work OK.

I have grey plastic ones they are about 9 years old seem to be holding up to my 130KG,s ok.

I cut them out on the water jet.

My set were cut out by hand.

I have some 10 mm grey plastic in the rack at work if i get a few intrested people i will cut some sets is this thick enough???

Or 6mm alloy probably not thick enough but thats the thickest alloy i stock.

Pete could make them in 2 sets of 6mm and put one on top the other for the 1/2" required.

i will see how much a sheet of 12mm alloy is.

The ones on ebay appear to be lexan which is brittle
polycarbonate is a lot softer we bend that in the press or would everyone prefer alloy?

If so i will work out a cost per set would rather do them 1 piece rather than cut 2 sets and sticking them together that looks bodgy.

I will get dimensions off my set but they not original and would prefer someone to take the time to draw me the dimensions and the radiuses exact for the corners i can get hole centres off my seat but if someone has a set can they trace them on a piece of A4 and dimension it and fax it to

My question would be,what was their purpose in the first place? Why weren't the mounts 1/2" taller? Was it some form of wear strip or vibration medium?Anyway, the nylon cutting board is actually a brilliant idea as this type of nylon is generally not brittle as such.Jamie.

I dont run rear ones adds a bit of extra re cline to the seat was probably so they didnt cut through the rubber im guessing.

I thought that they were optional and a method of raising the bench for height-challenged folk such as myself. This (plus breakage) is why they are not always present?

Hi Pete .. went out to the shed and swapped front spacers left to right, they lined up and bolted down OK, same with the rear spacers both interchangeable and bolt down OK .. looking down thru the hole, each one may be about 1 to 2 mm off center but the holes are bigger than the bolts and fit nice and snug when pulled down .. hope this helps ..
