Oh, that's a 5 speed.  I was left wondering what the post was going to about - but then Mark has lead us on some adventures into the unusual before this.

Aim straight and true,
David

Mini
1984 / 86 ? Toyota Corona with the  4 cyl star fire motor has a five speed box that should bolt straight up to a 186. Tailshaft will have to be made to suit. It probably won't last to long if your sister will be doing burnouts or drag racing but the upside is there cheap to buy and fairly thick on the ground.

Gday Brad
The Corona 5spd swap sounds interesting.
Does the box bolt to the holden red bellhousing, or
does the tomota bellhousing bolt to the holden motor?
I would assume it would be the former!
Will the toymota gearbox fit under a standard holden FE to EK manuel floor hump.
Also, will the floor shifter clear a bench seat?
It sounds like a simple swap.

Cheers Jeff

PS:Sorry to hi-jack your thread Mark,
Should I post my own and delete this one?

Hi Guys,
Toyota Corona RT104, 4 Speed cast Box Fits (5 speed I don't know about, but is probably a 4 speed with extended housing) fits as does Celica 5 Speeds.
The Gearbox bolt up requires a Dellow or Hatfield Adapter (these have changed a bit over the years) complete with Clutch adapters/brackets and hoses AND you have to change the bronze flywheel bush.
At the back the Toyota spline/yoke/uni has to be kept and mated to suitably shortened tail shaft ( if you know the length there is a chance that a later model (EJ-HK) tail shaft will fit, but usually it is easier to get a drive line specialist (truck shop) to cut/weld/balance your existing.
Normally the floor hump is cut out and a Hatfield (CRS) auto hump fitted.  However, it does work with the standard/original FE-EK manual floor hump, but you have to do the following:-
1. Set the whole motor/gearbox a bit lower. This requires welding red motor front engine mounts lower on HR cross member.  Some sump changes will also need to be made.
2. Cut out the under floor bracing over(under) the hump.  This severely weakens the floor.  I fabricated and welded in a 50mmx5mm flat to follow the floor on the underside, and on the topside welded a doubled ribbed profiled stiffener 20mm deep x 100mm wide across two/thirds of the floor.  This was further braced by a new boxed mount under the 5 Speed rear mount.
3. The Gear Lever ends up under the bench seat (about 80mm from the front in the folly back position). By using double spacers under the front seat floor fixing I have a fully adjustable UNMODIFIED front bench seat.  I cut the gear lever just above the ball and welded on a tube cross bar.  Running forward from this to a matching cross bar gear lever and ball joint is a rigid parallel action link assembly.  Works like a charm, can adjust the lever angle and (by using alternate tubes at the front) throw.
25 years ago I fitted the 4 speed RT104, last year we changed it to a Celica 5 speed and fixed up the dodgy bits, including the improved gear lever.
Easy, isn't it, good luck.
