Title: Gear shift tube EK to FE
Post by: zulu on August 14, 2006, 05:29:58 AM
G'day all, I have an FE ute with an EK steering column & wheel.

I want to fit an FE steering wheel and honey pot to the EK column & this will require changing the gear stick & indicator stalk to FE items, as the EK levers are raked back, they hit  the FE wheel.

Should I
A;shorten the FE gear lever tube so it fits inside the EK column in order to attach the FE gear stick.......

B;alter the EK gear lever tube to accept the FE gear stick

C;graft the FE gear stick to the lower section of the EK gear stick and retain the EK pot  :P

Any one on here done this before  ??? all advise appreciated

Regards, Gary

A, sounds feasible but will require accurate measurement and welding.
B, Dont think this will be easy at all.  Maybe easier to weld the top of an FE tube to the EK tube.
C, this sounds like the best method to me. Not sure about the respective crossection of the FE and EK gear stick tubes.  Is it possible to simply reshape the EK gear stick so it is the same shape as an FE one?

For what its worth,
I have an EK auto column in my FC running a FC wheel.
Had similar problems with levers fouling the wheel...so the simplset method was bending the EK levers to clear the wheel when used.
This IS the simplest method for an auto...not sure if the manual gear lever is similar but I assume it would be.
would save you a heap of time and headaches....
Hope it helps
