Title: Rare accessory. You ain't NEVER seen one of these.
Post by: 4hammers on July 18, 2006, 11:20:23 AM
Hi all.
Well, the wagon has gone, but I have a couple of goodies left. This is one of them. It is a late 50s "Shada-Car" awning. I found it NOS at an old second hand shop. It has a picture of a 58 Zephyr on the front of the box & mentions that it fitted Holden (As well as other makes). Sorry about the rushed pics, but when Brad came to pick up the car, I hadn't even takeen it off. It was there to air out in my garage. Note how it can be turned to cover the roof, to keep the car cool in hot weather. It also has correct ropes that hold the awning down with pegs, but stuffed if I could get those pegs into the concrete. :o
It attaches via a strap, that hooks over the gutters on each side of the roof. Has a felt protector strip. VERY well made.

Pretty Cool, but leaves me thinking.......what on earth would you ever use it for  ???

I mean, it really only covers one side of the car with no real room to sit underneath.  So I presume it would help provide shade whilst in the car....but what and where would you be, that you'd be sitting in the car long enough to need shade.

Be easier to prop up an UMBRELLA  ;D

Great pic though, and looks to be in really good nick.

PS......your wagon is truly GORGEUOS sitting there in a dark shed.   a real credit to you.

Hi All.

Hey Scott,
Yes, it is pretty strong. All steel & solid cast for the mountings. There is also a rubber-type tarp thingo, that can attach to the end points & shield against winds or perverts.

Kathy, everything is for sale, but how could you put a price on this? ;D Seriously though, I don't really have much use for it now, so I will probably be selling it. Not sure of a price though. Will let you know when I decide.

Mark,
I think it was just one of those acccessories, that were made because accessories were the "In Thing".
It does actually have a fair bit of room underneath. It is bigger than it looks. I have had a little BBQ, Eski, small table & 2 of those folding chairs set up under there & I can sit in it. It is in great nick, that is why I had it opened, to air it out & stop any silverfissh. Colours are super bright & material is still strong. Spotless.

The wagon is gone now, very sad to say. A new guy on the forum has it, picked it up the day I took these photos. It did look cool there, Huh? :'(
