Title: Fe Ute front stabilizer bar
Post by: Rabbitoh on August 12, 2002, 04:05:41 AM
I have just bought from Rare Spares a Stabilizer Bar stud repair kit. The internal diameter of the rubber bracket insulator seems to be 5/8", but the bar is 11/16". Is there a thicker bar for the commercials (ute, van) than the sedans? Also the old studs are a lot beefier than the Rare's ones? Can anyone shed some light?

Sounds like you have been sold the wrong thing.

Let me check with my contact at R/S and I will get back to you.

The diameter of the bar is correct at 11/16 and the rubber ID is correct at 5/8.  The rubber is compressed when you bolt the bracket up tight.

The upright on FE and FC was in fact a thicker one than the later models.  The kit reflects the diameter of the later uprights rather than the FE/FC ones.  The later upright will work no problems unless you are striving for absolute originality.  If you are, I probably have some good FE/FC items if you need them.

The stabiliser bar is the same for all FE and FC models.

Many thanks for that information Ken.
I think I'll keep my original studs (which are fine).
I'll take the kit back and try to just buy the insulators from R/S.
