The car should be painted black all over on the outside. The interior trim should be Fall Red & Black. Does your car not look like that ? Dr Terry. Title: Re: WHATS TRIM 4-627 FC ONE TONE BLACK 225 Post by: RET on June 09, 2006, 06:28:51 AM The "Date by Engine Number" list is only approximate. It could be the original engine number. Remember that engines were only manufactured in Melbourne and crated all over the country, so there's a bit of variation in the pattern.
The red in the door-jambs is typical of one-colour specials, too. My dad's all-white FC has this; red/black door trims, and red in the door-jambs and on the B-pillar inner. It's actually called "Duotone", and was introduced with the FJ Specials. Geoff_K has some documentation that stipulates what secondary colour goes with each single-tone exterior. Dr Terry might, too. By the body number, it looks like the car should have a piece of trim on the base of the "C" pillar, not the fin extensions of the late '59 style. Black Specials aren't especially rare, and most fleet vehicles (black or otherwise) were Standards. Hope that's some help. cheers RET Title: Re: WHATS TRIM 4-627 FC ONE TONE BLACK 225 Post by: the_love_god on June 09, 2006, 08:58:49 AM Hi Ret, thank you for the info that great :) there are so many types of story of each year and models of FE/FC,l notices when l taken the rear seat out behind the seat were the trim meets around the back there were hood line matrials ??? thank you cheers from Alfio
Title: Re: WHATS TRIM 4-627 FC ONE TONE BLACK 225 Post by: mcl1959 on June 09, 2006, 09:21:55 AM Alfio, the number "4" is the GMH code for the paint scheme. Doesn't seem to make much sense for a one colour car but when you talk about 2 tone cars it is much easier in a factory environment to quote a single number which describes not only both the colours of the car but also which one was on the top and which one was on the bottom.
For example Adobe Beige over Seminole Brown would be simply described as "263" The other reason for the code is when a customer comes in to buy paint or trim parts and quotes the ID plate details, it acts as a double check so that the parts department can verify the customer has written the right numbers down. Black was still a popular colour in the 50's. A very high percentage of cars in the 30's and 40's were black and people still saw it as a limousine or high class colour even though it was hot in summer. By the time the FB was made Black was starting to fade away as a popular colour and by the time of the EH, black was quite a rare colour. Your car is a 1959 model - the middle model. This ran from late 1958 through to the middle of 1959.
