Title: Indicator arrows flash together
Post by: collecta on May 31, 2006, 10:56:06 AM
My indicator arrows on the dash both flash when indicating left or right not one side at a time like they should .
Is this a bad earth or flasher can fault. only started after swapping headlight switch and flasher can.

cheers
Scott

Could check the hazard switch... :P
Just like the NASCO one on ebay!!!!

Seriously though, it sounds like an earthing problem.

Cheers
Jason.

Go the earths!
Give the globe sockets a small twist in their holes, you might have just knocked one out of position onto a rusty spot.

Hi Guys.

Definitely a faulty flasher can.

In the days when most cars had 3-pin flasher cans, this was the most common fault.

My understanding is that if an indicator light globe has blown on the right side, the dash turn left arrow won't work and vice versa, although its some years since I had a globe blow and haven't seen this in action for a while.  It sounds like an urban myth, but that was the diagnoses I got when that happened.  That is different to Rusty's issue and to Scott's, but they do seem to do odd things when one component is broken or loose.
That is probably no help to anyone, sorry, but for what its worth....
Cheers,
David

Dr. Terry's got the answer, above.
Rusty, you might have a blown right hand arrow bulb. Also check your dash earths.

Are both globes flashing properly (ie at a typical flasher rate) or are they strobing?  If the latter (and I think this is what David was referring to), this is a sign that there's a blown globe (or possibly a short) in one of the exterior indicators.  This is not my strong suit, but I understand it's something to do with the varying resistance levels: if the exterior globe is not functioning correctly it 'leaks' back to the dash indicators.

Thanks Doc,
I thought as much seeing how i zap the new  f/can that was in the car while i had the dash hanging out, so i  grabbed the one out of the ute and the problem started.
thanks to all that had a stab at it.

cheers
