Demister was not standard equipment, and is not required for original vehicle.  Rules vary from state to state, but generally demister is required for modified vehicles.

In QLD,  If the car is standard and not modified, then you wont need to fit a demister or even seatbelts .Provided seatbelts have never been fitted. If It never had one then it doesn't need one is the general rule .

If you are planning to put seat belts in in QLD before rego or after you will need an engineering certificate.

Cheers
