Title: Vacuum pump o/haul kits Post by: Rabbitoh on April 21, 2006, 08:36:24 PM Are service kits still available for these?
(My wipers are almost stationery these days). Title: Re: Vacuum pump o/haul kits Post by: graham_fuller on April 21, 2006, 11:30:38 PM Should be able to get them from Rare Spares. Also pull the wiper motor off and check the main connection point to the body is not jammed.

Be aware that there are two different versions of the vacuum pump, and the later (May 1957 onwards, 4 valve version) produces much more vacuum than the earlier 2 valve type. cheers RET Title: Re: Vacuum pump o/haul kits Post by: Rabbitoh on April 27, 2006, 08:39:45 PM Thanks guys.
Got the 2nd type pump and turns out all the wiper motor needed was a new (well newer) paddle fitted. On a related topic, I have the glass w/s. washer bottle fitted, but I can't work out how it works in getting a spray of water onto the screen. Is it vacuum assisted or do you create the vacuum via the tiny little knob on the wiper operation knob? Is it trial and error to work out which tube goes where, or can someone offer some guidance please? This is one of my 'to do' items from my roadworthy cert. inspection. tah, Chris Title: Re: Vacuum pump o/haul kits Post by: zulu on April 28, 2006, 02:18:58 AM G'day Rabbitoh, Having the bottle is a start, if you don't already have them you will also need the nozzels that replace the small bolts in the wiper bases.
The metal "T" piece to divert engine vacuum to the washer. The special wiper knob with spring loaded plunger Alex (custom FC) has done an article on it that can be found in the Index page. It's under Accesory of the Week page 2 about halfway down, it also has the fitting instructions. I think there was also a foot pump version, which would be better than the knob pump, as after a while you end up with a hole in your thumb :P Gary |
