Post by: mike06 on April 18, 2006, 11:10:34 AM
Does anyone no of a 15inch rim that has the same stud patern as the fc original stud patern im looking at putting 15inch rims all round without changing to hq stud pattern.

Should be easy to get hold of at a Volvo Wrecker, probably cheaper to buy a whole car  ;D
If memory serves, they are a similar style to the Holden "Chaser" rims.

Most early Volvos were FC pattern. I have a few Volvo 15s here somewhere and can post a pic if you need one.

Did I read on this forum, or somewhere else about rims with a "step down" centre?
This let you use your stock centre in a larger dia. rim.
Maybe talk to your local wheel works for some info.
If it's right let us all know ::)

I know you can get a step down 15" rim that will fit a 14" centre, not sure about any other sizes though

The step down wheels were usually called 'mexican' rims and were 15" rims for 14" centres, usually quite wide though. I believe the factory that made them no longer exists though (burnt down?) and these rims are near impossible to get now? Try Neway wheels in Melbourne, they will know.

Hi Mike, I had stepped wheels made by ROH Australia, - organized by a Bridgestone outlet. They are a true three piece wheel, with a 14' centre ( fc/hr stud pattern), and a stepped 15' alloy rim. I believe they are a "simmons" copy. They ran a 55 profile tyre, which was also calculated by the tyre dealer, in order to keep the rolling diameter of a 14' tyre, and thus keep the speedo smewhere near accurate! The details of the wheel specs. are available-stamped on the labels on the inner rim. I have photos and details, if you would like to call me on 0416039477 ( Graham ) - ex fe/fc sa club member.

didn't the fx or fj come out with (cheese cutter) 15's???.

Fx - Fj have different bolt layout.
Isn't there a HG or thereabouts 14" rim with FC stud spacing, perhaps this can be used with a 15" step-down rim?

HK, HT and HG are early pattern and have 14" centres. The HK is readily identifiable with 8 slots (4 sets of 2) around the outside and has a different offset to HT and HG. All will fit into the step down rims (if you can find any!) and you get whatever offset you need. If you find someone who has the steel step down rims in stock let us all know.

Gaday guys,
was just reading with interest about the rims,a mate of mine has a XA GT coupe  (l know  l know!)with Dragway 5 spokes 14's on the front &  15's on the back,l was helping him clean it for a show one day & as l was wiping the wheels over he heard me exclaim out loud , "Cheeky bastards!" He obviously wanted to know what the hell l was on about & l told him that they must use the same centres for 14 & 15 " rims,he said it was impossible until l showed him the rear rims were stepped rims &  the fronts were different. He's probably had the wheels for 10 years so l dont know if its still the same story.                                   Daz.
p.s  l had a HT sedan a while back & it had std. brakes with the 15" chaser or pursuit rims on it,l never knew they existed until then. Incidently around the outer lip of the rim it was stamped "bmw  michelin".

I have heard (never confirmed though) that early BMW rims share the early holden stud pattern.
