I hope I can help regarding painting the steering wheel. I would use Por 15 as it is very flexible I think the 2 pak will crack as i've discovered. Regards. Or are you talking about a por 15 steering wheel paint I havent heard of. I painted my first wheel in acrylic and it got better with time as steering it seemed to buff it it up to a glassy shine, after a couple of years it got a couple of barely noticable chips but one day my spline striped and I had to run home and get another, this one got painted with a go lo spray can and never set, after driving around for a week all sticky I swapped it for another wheel, this time I used a dearer rattle can, it looked ok for a while but chiped very easy. I will probably use 2k this time, problem with 2k is that if you dont have 2k at home you will need to get, 2k primer, 500 ml of 2k black, 2k thinner, 2k hardner as well as your fillers, it could nearly cost as much as a restored wheel. Title: Re: FC steering wheel Post by: fccool59 on March 27, 2006, 02:03:38 PM just noticed another post mentoining a por 15 steering wheel resto kit wich I guess leon (not me, the other Leon) is talking about, it may be worth sussing out, I picked up a por 15 alloy resto kit for the same price as 2k clear and hardner, it even had a tube of autosol in it, I havent used it yet but Ill let ya's know how it works out when I do, it's used to give your polished metals a permanant shine.

Small Hijack here, Leon, with the alloy resto kit, don't go for the recommended second coat as it seems to stuff the first coat up. Brush on is OK and it flattens out perfectly. I didn't know about the steering wheel paint kit that you can buy. I sprayed my steering wheel on my FE standard sedan about 3 years ago and where the spokes joins the wheel there were cracks so I sanded and under coat then applied acrylic paint. About a couple of weeks the cracks were back. About 8 or so months ago I sanded and under coated the wheel again this time I used POR15 black gloss and it still looks as good as the day I sprayed it. I can't say its not the right paint for any one who's thinking of using it; all I can say it works for me with NO regrets. As for 2pac I was refering to a steering wheel I borght and it was sprayed a short time before and it had fine cracks in it. Regards. Leon ;) |
