Title: TERESA ALFIOM CUSTOM FE 58
Post by: the_love_god on March 21, 2006, 11:39:54 AM
Well what can l say ,l have beening working on TERESA for almost 2 years,on and off but the last 12 month pretty full on.l have made major changes to the body design, there are 6 off them 1/. The rear quarter panels has been extented 10 inches long 2/.The frount mudgaurds :o has been extented 5 inches longer 3/.The rear quarter and the frount mudgaurds has been lowered 3 inches 4/the dog leg have been extented 5/.The rear beaver  8) has been extented and recess for the continental kit 6/.The rear bar is also custom made as well. There  are a few more just small ones.Thats the body,Paint is two pack three layer pearl code 051 toyota l left out a few tinters out l wanted to have a clean pearl.l also so super flow coat that means you let the clear coat dry out for 2 to 3 weeks then slice it with 1000 grit wet/dry,then flow coat.then left it for 3 weeks and used G3 Farecla cutting compound, then G10 which is finer compound, use a G.MOP DO NOT USE WOOL, its  will give you swells.l did not use any fine sandpaper ,the roof is same as rosie.thats all for to nite ,Alex is going to send pic for me soon  :D SO STAY TUNE FOR NEXT TIME 8) FROM ALFIOM ;)

G’day Alfio
I’m very ‘green’ about this sort of stuff but I’m interested to know what you mean by ‘super flow coat’ is that a product or a method of applying clear coat, also what is a G-mop, I guess its a fabric mop instead of wool

Cheers

Blu ute,

sounds like panel beaters and spray painters jargon to me.

a flow coat is usually a heavier wet coat of clear applied over a clear coat which has been previously  "sliced" back to give a smooth surface devoid of orange peel or minor sink backs.

a super flow coat by the looks of it, maximises your chances of getting the best, smoothest surface to paint by allowing the paint to settle for a long period.

I think the "G MOP" just refers to a foam style compounding mop.  Personally I have used the 3M Perfect it range with good results, and you don't use lambswool on 2K finishes as Alfio states.

I'm no painter.. I spent some time helping/watching Alfio do the colour on my wagon, so took the opportunity to learn some speak.

As Stinky says " for a QA guy I make a good painter".. or something like that"

Cheers

Ed

Yeah Ed I'm the same
I find some paint shops have sales people not ex tradies & their info is not always correct or just plain confuses the hell out of a 'numb skull' like me & this is where a forum like this is invaluable.

Alf,

You are f*&ken amazing!!!

This car is incredible, people will love and hate it, but all will admire the work you have done. It will definitely polarise opinion, but I know which side I'm on!!

This is one of the most amazingly individual customs ever built, an absolute credit to you and your skills.

Well done.

Alfio
That is awsome :o :o, The amount of work you have put into it has paid off, its a credit to you. I find it amazing the amount of top quality cars that have been
finished or just about to be finished in the last couple of months.
But Alfio you have lifted the bar pretty high with this one so your next custom is going to have to be over top to beat this.
Congrats

Cheers
Glenn

Alfi.....well done on your car !

The styling is not my cup of tea, but it's your cup of tea to be had, and as Craig said...you can;t help but admire the work you have done !

As far as the Engine Bay goes...to me...you deserve a medal !   You have achieved what HOLDEN should have done with the VK.....a "TASTEFULLY" desgined built and painted engine bay that suits the car without being tempted to cheapen it with too much bling bling.  There have only been 2 engines I've seen which in my opinion were better than the factory versions.....one is a Chev V8 in a FC Wagon ( Recent Street Machine Mag ), and yours.....I absolutely love it....it's neat, tidy, oh so clean, I just keep looking at it. 8)

Same goes with your interior.....you have a lot of Commodore gear in there which is something else I'd rather not put into my cup of tea....but you have done it well...it somehow works, looks right, and still says "FC".

The Rear bumpers moulding around the exhausts  ect ect..it just screams "attention to detail".

You have obviously put alot of thought into the car, let alone the time and money to build it.

Congratulations.....you should be very proud of your work.

Looks like I may have to try Herbal Teas ( lol ).

Thanks for sharing the pics !

Mark

well he certainly has a lot to say about nothing dont he ???

and to have built a "fully customised" gemini would qualify him to comment on anything especially seeing that it won a trophy at a small show ONCE ( but it really was the queen of the show circut, really it was ::) ::)) the mind boggles as to what he would have classed as customised, maybe he had a 15 inch subwoofer and a full sick stereo and possibly, just possibly a 6 inch exhaust tip just to set the whole thing off. i wonder where it is now?

frankly all i can say is STICK YOUR HEAD UP YOUR A*** AND HAVE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT YOURSELF  >:( >:(

alfio well done mate the car is a credit to you,.

i actually just had to have a look at his wonderful creations, and well lets just say that i was not suprised to see his work but i did have a really good laugh ;D

the gemini "show" car looked like it had every bolt on piece of fiberglass that was ever made, that was about it.

cheers for posting the photo of the FX was thinking of doing it myself, now i am of an open mind and appreciate the time and effort that goes into building a custom from what was once just a vision but seriously this FX would have to be the ugliest creation that i have seen, and he has the nerve to bag alfio's work.

Hi.
Got a big mouth that fella. Don't let it worry you, Alfio. You are very good at what you do & although I am a "stockie" lover, I can see what you have done is amazing. I didn't see the post, but he was sprouting about how rough it was, so I assume it was just senseless babble.
That is the second time he has said stuff that has beefed me, so I have joined SRV & have given him "My" opinion. Lets see what he thinks about that. He actually seems like an OK guy & has some great posts on that site, so I am confused as why he would do that.

Hmmmm, great, another forum I can get into fights on ;)
I will have to rouse the troops & give him some grief. Sarge, Emu, Kiwi, where are you??

Rob J ;)

Thanks RET for pulling those posts.

Restoring a car is hard, time consuming and a huge effort.

Modifying a car is even harder, as it requires lots more leg work and investigation into various engineering options.

Customizing a car is a personal choice, and produces an individual result that will either be appreciated or mis-understood by others.

Alf has restored the car, modified it, and then customized it as well. An ENORMOUS undertaking, and one to be admired not admonished.

Cheers,

Craig.

Alfio,
I think the job you've done on your car is sensational, especially to all those that are in to the custom look.  I myself wish I could do mods to my car but unfortunately I'm not very good at that sort of thing so I have to stick to the bolt ons!!!
There's always someone who is not going to like what you do, maybe they should keep their opinions to themselves.  I love the continental kit and have discussed it before with my mates in regards to FE - Fc's, it is now good to finally see one done, to such good workmanship.  Looking forward to checking the car out at the Nat's.  Cheers,

You should be realy prould of what you have acheived with the car. Do not let those who knock it upset you. You may find that they would like to be able to do something like that and a re not able to. Come on Nats and we can ALL see the car in the flesh.

Alfio,
Your car is amazing.  If people can't appreciate the skill and quality that has gone into this, then don't even waste your time worrying about them.  Anyone who appreciates cars (stock or modified or anywhere in between) can see that your work is first class.  As others have said here, by building a custom, you will always get detractors, and people will either love it or hate it.  At least they should have the courtesy to acknowledge the quality of workmanship.

I've been looking at Alex's pictures for a couple of days trying to figure out if you might have drawn your inspiration from any other cars.  I'll take a guess and say 1950 Studebaker, especially with the lengthened front guards.  I won't be at the Nats, but I hope to see your car one day.  Certainly a change from Rosie, but the quality and skill hasn't changed. :o :o :o

I love the Continental look of the rear.   ;D

i cant believe how much work and mods you have done while leaving the car still being obviously an FE Holden,i love the continental back end ,i hope my interior comes out looking half that good, and now ive seen those big flairs im thinking i can actually use my deep dish Westerns that are sitting in the garage on my ute ,as they stick out about an inch wider than body work and require quite a big lip to avoid rubbing.
by the way who owns that batmobile FJ in other photo's,is it a smashup caravan derby entrant, gotta love those matching painted wheels lol :'(

Hi Gang,

I've been lurking for a while but thought I may as well post. Some of you may know me from the Ozrodders, HAMB or FB-EK forums.  Do you have intro nazi's here, if so I'll do one over the next day or two.

Alfio the car is absolutely amazing, the quality of your work speaks for itself. The styling of the front is very similar to a 49 ford owned by Keith Weesner (Hotord Artist in the US) and I really like how you did the conti Kit. The car reminds me of an old american custom but I cant quite work out which one, it may be a combination of a few. Keep up the excellent work..

Later

Brett.

My Dad once said to me that it is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think that you are a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it!

Alfio mate, you don't need to say anything, your work speaks for itself. But like I said in my last post, you may need a shed that holds a couple of hundred vehicles after seeing show car like that one.

 :)G Day Alf.
What did I say Alf  when  Teresa  was just about to take on that 2006 custom design look.
Because it was different its you. Because its your original design, Thats Alf.
The rear end bumper definitely  has the look of the front bumper  of my Studebaker President I had back in 1970.
The Name Teresa reminds me of the 70s song by Dave Mills called Teresa and your Rosie well  remember the Col Joy song? I put a ring around my Rosie. ;)
Well enough of reminiscing Back to the Dream machine  anyone who loves cars would give you the thumbs UP.
Job well done mate (You Know that) and those who don't are jealous. ;)

I've just seen this thread for the first time - and I'm amazed.  What a magnificent car, Alfio, and the attention to every little detail is a credit to you. There's a lot of thought and planning gone into this, and I'd say that if it's taken you a couple of years to do it, then you've been pretty busy.

I might ship Jim over to you to do the paint job - or take a 6 month holiday in NSW.

Congratulations.  Unmistakingly FE Holden, but soooo different.

Teresa and Rosie would make a good pair - I hope you win a lottery so you can keep Rosie.

Best wishes,

Martin

Hi every one , the next pic when Alex ::) post them for me, :-/ is when l first pick up the car,Ziggy had the car for 5 years , Then he decided to sell it ,before he owned the car it was at a panel shop then they strip it back to bare metal ,then there was a problem with the shop, and the poor car was left out in the weather for 1 year,l did not sand blasted,  it ,l use acid to kill the rust ,and keep sanding then acid till l was happy to work on the metal ,you can see on the panels how clean the metal is,then these pics of the rear panel welded ,and the recess of the rear beaver.l use a mudgaurd of another model car, then cut to suit to shape the panel, also l use a lower rear panel of a S/W and the petrol recess as well, the dog leg is a lot bigger than it was,Then onces it was all welded and grined down then l applied body filler to help to shape the panels ,did not use spray filler, spray filler is not safe to use it can crack and split, will get more pics post soon. Congratulations Alfio - Teresa looks fantastic.

I love anything new being done to FE-FC models. I can't wait to see her in Phillip Island. I hope you feel its all been worth-while. Thanks Alex for posting the build & end-results pics - really helps to show all the effort that's gone in. I've been off-forum for about a year, doing the Nats DVD and some websites, so its good to come back to some great surprises!

See you all in Phillip Island. Cheers, Tim.

Awesome car mate... I've already let you know via PM, I think you're a magician...! Even after the slide show the other night, I saw how you did it......... but I still don't know how you did it!!! Magician!!

Attention to detail is second to none and I can't wait to see her in person....

One of a kind for sure!!!

Thank you Alex, what you see see rust not paint, what l use was a strong acid that bricky use, first l sanded off the rust with p40 on a 6inch sander machine,to nock down the surface rust ,do not try to sand to hard you will cause too much heat and you will have more work on your hand, :o then you put the panel in a cool area ,apply the acid stright no water, make sure you wear safety gear, :) apply on the panel with a brush, leave it for 30 mins, then use a red scawer or a strong steel wool, then wach off and dry,and rept, then sand down with p80 on a sander again you will see that the rust is lefted to the surface of the metal :o ,then acid again, you may have to do this a few time till all the rust agent is gone, then before you put metal primer use deoxidine  metal cleaner, as you can see it works well , hope this will help you ,the other pics is when l mod the mudguards, as you can see how l cut the housing of the peck of the panel and added 5 inch more ,them work around the blinker.and lowered the panel 3inch,l let the pics tell you the story take care from AlfioM ;)

Alfio, what did you have over the welds before you put the fibreglass filler on? looks like some greeny coulered stuff on the picture of the guard.

Hi Glen and Leon,  Glen the acid i use is called hydripfosic acid, and leon the green paint is etch primer that l use over the welds ,either brush or spray on you leave it for a few days then sand it with 180 dry and put you filler on over it ,you find different paint have different colors.cheers from AlfioM
