Title: 186 wif 350 holley....
Post by: SpasticCrust on March 19, 2006, 12:18:16 AM
i recently drove my car to hervey bay, well i didnt make it very far till a piece of rusty tailpipe fell down and blocked the muffler...moments later it backpressured and the muffler exploded.

anyways just needing a few parts for my car... and i was thinking of buying a 350 holley + manifold for my red 186. now i also need a new FULL exaust system including extractor and was just wondering would a 2 1/4 or mayb a 2 1/2 be acceptable?

Oh and my heater unit is STUFFED and so now i have a huge hole in my firewall :P...... anyways just looking for some1's input.

My car is a Holden HG Kingswood and the 186 is COMPLETELY ORIGINAL!!

Thanx

Dear Spazzy
I have edited your post.
Please tone it down a notch, you can get the info you want here, you just need to ask in a proper manner.

1. 2 1/4" system should be fine on the 186.
2. Fix your heater unit.

Cheers

*embarassed face* sorry guys....totally 4got about the non-swearing thingo....

anyways thanks for the info on the muffler.
but as to getting a 350 holley+manifold....wats ur opinion? cos i can prolly get a recon'd carbie cheap, manifold is seeming to be a hard find. but i dont exactly know about wat prices i shuld be looking at and wat would be a rip off.

The 350 on a Std 186 will probably just give you higher fuel consumption. If you have mods then your car may benefit power wise.
IMHO, if the car is stock as you say, it will hold it's value better if you keep it stock, or at least keep all the stock bits in case you sell.

well in that case ....might i be better off reconditioning the original single barrel carbie on it then putting a set of bigger jets on it?

also by mods...do u mean anything like extractors or a bigger exaust?

Thanks

Usually cam, carb and extractors is the first (and easiest) step. After that the amount of dollars/hp climbs with head work and beefing up engine components.
Not sure about jetting a carb, as I have said before, as a mechanic I make a good computer tech  ;D
Getting a 186 to move around a big heffalump of a HG quickly is going to be a tall order, so have a think about long term plans before making changes.
