Title: FEs on game boards Post by: ridgey_didge on February 17, 2006, 09:57:37 AM Here are some games that were played back in the old days when the family could expect to see a dozen FEs on any trip. One is a game where you try to tick every box on the page. The other is a race to get to the centre first. If you see your 'pass car' you get to jump 2 spaces ahead.

I hadn't seen those before. In the second game, it would obviously have been too easy to see an FE, so they said it had to be driven by a 'bare headed driver'. That would have been a challenge- everyone wore hats in those days! Where did you find these relics? :D Title: Re: FEs on game boards Post by: customFC on February 17, 2006, 12:52:31 PM Cool boardgames.
I remember playing the spotto game when I was a lad. Not that old a version though. I too have never seen these particular games before. Nice pick up. There is a third game of spotto in the set that also has the sedan drawing on it. On that one you had to spot a blue holden or a cream holden etc. The odd thing is that the copyright year on it is 1951. Now if that were correct the history of the FE would need to be re-written. Its amazing what is still out there if you're lucky enough to find it. Cheers, David Title: Re: FEs on game boards Post by: Shayne on February 17, 2006, 09:46:10 PM Hi David,
I'm pretty sure the copyright date of 1951 would be for the board game. It might have had FX holdens or something on it, and they've just updated the games intermittently without having to apply for new copyright. Well done, and now you've got to keep an eye out for the 3rd in the set. Ahh, collecting, it is neverending. Kids might tire of it though ::) Great score that. Thanks for sharing it. cheers RET Title: Re: FEs on game boards Post by: steamman on February 23, 2006, 12:56:22 AM We used to play number plate cricket on long trips.
Two innings per player the last number on number plates are the amount of runs scored up to 6, above 6 was a 6 and 0 was out! Kept my kids amused for hours. Another game was one where that was played in the dark was to identify a car coming up behind by its head lights. Best part it got rid of the "are we there yet???!!! :-/ :-/" Cheers Deano. |
