Title: bum fell out of the driver's seat Post by: dbfc on January 29, 2006, 04:52:54 AM My FC station sedan just passed 100K (well, thats what the odometer says) and to mark the occasion the driver seat dropped, sprong!, when I went over a bump this week.
I'd take a picture, but all I know is what I can feel under the seat and it seems like a couple of the rear links of the bedspring-like rack have simply broken. Its not terribly uncomfortable, but I'm sure the added strain will claim a few more springs, and pretty soon I'll be sitting on the floor. I once tried to repair a stuffed Hillman Minx seat with beach chair webbing and turned it into a trampoline so bad that it was difficult to drive, so I'm thinking about getting professional help. Would an upholsterer be able to fix this, or do they assume the structural bits would be in place? Has anyone had any experience fixing these bedframes, once they snap off, can they be mended or welded? Anyone know of a shop in the Melbourne area who can help with this? My FC isn't a show car, or even a restoration. Its just a much-loved daily driver. My youngest calls it "The Bouncy Car", but thats another thing to fix up... Thanks, Dave Title: Re: bum fell out of the driver's seat Post by: mcl1959 on January 29, 2006, 06:30:59 AM Yes broken springs would be correct. A good upholsterer will be able to remove the broken springs and replace them with new ones or with some good second hand ones if the new ones available are the wrong shape.
I have some available if needed Ken Title: Re: bum fell out of the driver's seat Post by: fe hotrod on January 29, 2006, 10:09:02 AM ;)a good trimmer who has helped out some of my mates and sponsored our car club is SUPERTRIM in sydney rd coburg not sure of the number,i know they do a lot of old holden trimming, you can buy the springs off someone like ken and take them to them and they will put them in!!!cheers jamie ;)
