Title: how to attach bonnet seal? Post by: Ed on January 26, 2006, 05:27:56 AM Hi guys,
how does the bonnet seal attach? one on top of the firewall with a series of holes going across the top. rivets, screws??? I am reluctant to do either any tips here? Cheers Ed Title: Re: how to attach bonnet seal? Post by: Blown_FC on January 26, 2006, 05:52:03 AM Ed, it attaches with long T shaped clips made just for the job.
I don't have any spare unfortunately, but if you ask around for an old one off someones wreck or donor car, you can just take out the old clips and put them in your new rubber. Hope this helps. Mark Title: Re: how to attach bonnet seal? Post by: craiga on January 26, 2006, 05:57:26 AM Ed,
The originals are prone to rust. You can use plastic ones off later models (Commodore), which are better anyway because they don't scratch off the paint as you push them through the hole in the cowl. They also provide a more effective seal. Rares or their agents will be able to help, as will Spectrum Rubber. Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: how to attach bonnet seal? Title: Re: how to attach bonnet seal? Post by: smithy on February 09, 2006, 03:07:15 AM hi guys have you tried rare spares, the rubber i used was on supplied by rares and had the clips already attached.
failing that try taking the seal into one of the japanese manufacturers spares dept, im sure they could match it up, or as stinky suggested auto parts store, im sure even repco could come close. good luck dean Title: Re: how to attach bonnet seal? Post by: blacky on February 09, 2006, 10:25:33 PM Most panelbeaters have grab kits of all sorts of little clips and doodads , might be worth a try ?
Title: Re: how to attach bonnet seal? Post by: mcl1959 on February 10, 2006, 07:07:27 AM You could always use original clips. I've never had any trouble with them rusting and they're not that hard to find.

RE: bonnet seal clips. I have used plastic clips from Rare Spares. Retainer roof/door seal HK-HX Part # SP1710 cost $0.30 each. 9 required. They fit well, just use a pin punch to drive them home tightly. hope this helps Cheers Ed |
