Title: FC Horn Cap Post by: les on January 20, 2006, 04:46:56 AM We have just received the quote for the FC horn cap, they will retail for around $125.00 is this and expectable price and is there still interest in them at that price
Les Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: hawk on January 20, 2006, 06:02:55 AM Yes i would take one Cheers Greg.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on January 20, 2006, 06:14:25 AM I guess a sample would need to be seen before I said yes or no.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: 20.4_seconds on January 20, 2006, 07:44:48 AM Hi Les,
I think, if it's on a comparable level of quality as that of the rear tail badge, $125.00 sounds like a very good price. I guess I would also have to see the test sample after it had been left to bake in the sun for a while to see how the modern paint reacts!! But then again even the original ones faded ::) and that is what has brought us here......... p.s.. bugger..... does this mean the value of my NOS horn button has dropped significantly?? ;D Nick Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: TorqueFC on January 20, 2006, 07:50:26 AM would be interested in 2, of course would also have to see a sample :)
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Jonno on January 20, 2006, 07:55:14 AM ditto...
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: corm on January 20, 2006, 08:16:10 AM Yep, Like to see the finished product, but sounds fair enough to me.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: les on January 20, 2006, 08:29:57 AM Quote I guess a sample would need to be seen before I said yes or no. The manufacturer is the same one as the FC boot badge so the quality will not be a problem the problem will be selling enough we would have to believe we can sell 150-175 quickly before we proceed, the rest we will keep long term. Les Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Jonno on January 20, 2006, 08:54:55 AM I'm sure it would be possible to take some sort of poll of members to gauge interest....but I don't know who would be prepared/able to put up the $20k guarantee to get things started.....
Jon Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: 20.4_seconds on January 20, 2006, 08:58:22 AM very true Jonno...I see the price of NOS ones raising again...... ;D ;D..just like the stock market aye...lol
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Jonno on January 20, 2006, 09:09:18 AM horn cap futures....now there's a thought!
;D ;D Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on January 20, 2006, 09:49:39 AM There is of course all of the potential sales to people not on the forum or the 'net.
95% of the SA Club don't get on the forum, either that or they are lurkers. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: les on January 20, 2006, 11:56:07 AM I will see if we can do a special for the forum on preorders as long as the quality is up to the mark. Rares do not normally do preorders but this may be a special case, I will try for a discount as well on preorders for forum members
Les Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: graham_fuller on January 20, 2006, 11:57:39 AM Great to here from you Les
I would buy a couple at least at that price. Do you think the boot badge will sell in those quantities all at once? When will we see the boot badge ? Any chance they would make the FE bonnet insert? Cheers, Graham Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: fcee on January 22, 2006, 03:00:34 AM Put me down for one at that price thanks . Steve ;)
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: leon on January 23, 2006, 10:47:22 AM :) Two for me as well.
Regards. Leon ;) Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Blown_FC on January 24, 2006, 03:53:35 AM I'd be interested aswell, but still waiting for the boot badges to become available, as I'm hanging to finish the back end of the car, and the boot badge is all I need. Now to the front of the car...
PS....any ETA on teh boot badges...please. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: les on January 24, 2006, 06:08:18 AM ETA boot badge early April

Hopefully we should be able to work out a deal with Rare Spares and get them on the market soon. Regards Ken Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on January 04, 2007, 08:39:14 AM Very Nice, IF I ever restore an FC I'll be knockin' on Rares door for one of them.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: customFC on January 04, 2007, 10:58:13 AM Wow!!
That looks great, thanks for sharing. I think the bottom is about to fall out of the horn button market. Bring 'em on!! Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: FE_STD_WAGON on January 04, 2007, 12:01:34 PM wow indeed, Hang on that should be WOW!!!!!!
It's going to be hard to pick the repro from the original. IT's put a :) on my face and I reckon your right on the money Alex Nos buttons are going south ;) Ken, any Idea on when they will be available ? Cheers Mick Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: mcl1959 on January 05, 2007, 08:11:46 AM Well this is just the prototype and it will take a few months after approval until stock can be made. The boot badge took some months between prototype and availability.
Also club funding will be essential for it to fly. We are currently looking at bankrolling the plastic seat surrounds (see my comments in that particular thread) so funding may be difficult without the support of the other clubs (apart from Vic and NSW) Ken Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: COL58FE on January 05, 2007, 11:42:27 AM just one other thing if anyone finally work's all this out, why are some painted silver and some painted off white on the underside too. would this affect the different finanl colour's or is it just to stop them being see through or to cover the different colours that are put on.
::)col. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: mcl1959 on January 06, 2007, 09:09:28 AM Different suppliers. Most products that were sourced from other than GMH themselves were from 2 suppliers
Think Bosch and Lucas electrics Preslite and Delco etc etc etc Ken Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: mcl1959 on January 06, 2007, 09:12:07 AM Also the reason we did them with a blue centre is because the sales brochure for both FE and FC show a blue centre in the horn button. I know other colours do exist but you cant say that blue is the wrong colour.;D
Ken Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: COL58FE on January 07, 2007, 09:50:21 AM :o :o :o :o,
either way when they become available i'll being buying two. one for the fe and one for the hell of it. by the way they look very very bloody good too might i add. col. ;) Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on January 08, 2007, 04:08:37 AM Have the repros been UV tested?
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: COL58FE on January 09, 2007, 02:25:33 AM stinky,
30+ sun screen should do the job ;D Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: fcee on January 11, 2007, 10:54:27 PM Horn cap on ebay n.o.s. does not look as good as the reproduction from rare spares ,bring on the repro ! ;)
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: old-blu on January 11, 2007, 11:20:27 PM Great to see the horn button repro. As for the NOS ones, It is drawing a long bow to compare a NOS button that has been boxed for 50 yrs with a repro. dripping wet out of the mould. The challenge of the search, as well as finally locating & fitting a NOS button is worth the doing. The decision to repro. these makes things easier & gets my applause. I located 3 NOS buttons over 25 yrs. & got great satisfaction out of fitting them. They cost me $100 each at the time,& still seem good value to me. I hope the FE bonnet inserts are next on the agenda. Keep up the good work guys.
Cheers Old-Blu. ;) Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: RET on January 12, 2007, 06:40:43 AM Quote I hope the FE bonnet inserts are next on the agenda. Me too! Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: collecta on January 12, 2007, 09:33:36 AM Me Three

Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Martin on January 23, 2007, 12:51:39 PM Are we still looking at around $125 now? THat price was suggested 12 months ago.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Bessie_3 on January 31, 2007, 03:25:20 AM For what looks like a quality product the price seems reasonable, if we can get a club discount all the better. I'd buy one. Derrick.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: Rabbitoh on February 02, 2007, 12:05:20 PM Quote me four...... me five, six and seven...... (3 FE's to do) Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: NES304 on April 25, 2007, 08:23:39 AM I'd be happy if I could get just one

Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: customFC on May 17, 2007, 10:01:19 AM By the looks of things, the original pic has been removed from where it was stored.
Perhaps Les, Ken or someone who saved the pic on their PC, can repost the pic. Regards Alex Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: mcl1959 on May 18, 2007, 12:50:03 AM Unfortunately I dont have a pic

Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: mcl1959 on May 20, 2007, 05:23:37 AM TTV, these have now gone into production and Rare Spares are awaiting the delivery of the first batch from the suplier.
As soon as we have word that they have arrived I will post here. I hope that the quality will be as good as or maybe better than the boot badges. While minor imperfections are hard to eradicate in this process, they are more noticeable on a horn button than on a boot badge simply because you look at it a lot more. Will have to wait and see on that one. Each person has to make up their own mind on what they are happy or unhappy with. Ken Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: TTV6FC on May 20, 2007, 10:48:32 AM No worries, thanks Ken.
Title: ARRIVED Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: v8 wagon on June 22, 2007, 04:58:59 AM they are advertised in the latest street machine
with a photo part no HC1001 in the rare spares catalogue at $136.60 steve Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: spanner on October 01, 2007, 10:31:53 AM My new Horn Cap arrived in the mail from Rare Spares today. Very happy with the product and the price. Thank you to eveyone who had a hand in making this happen. Well worth the wait. ;D
Graham Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: craiga on October 01, 2007, 01:34:11 PM Hi Graham,
Did you pre-order it from the Rares website or get it from one of the Rares outlets? Thanks, Craig. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: spanner on October 01, 2007, 04:01:18 PM Craig,
Pre-order from the website. $125.40 inc freight to NQ. Graham. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: craiga on October 01, 2007, 05:04:35 PM Thanks Graham.
I had already pre-ordered mine but hadn't heard anything. Will chase them up tomorrow. It will be strange at the Nationals to see most cars with perfect horn buttons and boot badge inserts. Bit of a shame really, it was always such a rare sight to see a NOS or perfect one - now the place will be full of them!! Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: NES304 on October 03, 2007, 07:06:32 PM any word on the seat surrounds?
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: craiga on October 03, 2007, 08:56:25 PM Not sure about the seat sides, but Rares defintely have the horn caps in stock and available for shipping. Mine will arrive tomorrow ;D
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: TTV6FC on October 05, 2007, 09:39:59 PM Mine should be here on Tuesday, can't wait....
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: fcee on October 14, 2007, 06:43:59 PM Got my horn cap from Rares in Vic ,great quality ,looks real good and very happy with the price , now would like to hear about the scratch plates . cheers Steve . ;)
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: TTV6FC on October 16, 2007, 08:32:59 PM Picked up my horn cap today, looks nice.Does everyone else have some small lines or impressions coming down from the bottom of the letters to the top of the shield? Not overly noticeable just wondering if this is the same casting mark on all of them.Cheers,Jamie.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: hawk on October 16, 2007, 08:52:27 PM Jamie ,i have bought two of them and they both have that small imperfection.
Cheers, Greg. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: craiga on October 17, 2007, 08:57:07 AM Mine has this imperfection as well, but it certainly looks 100% better than the faded and aged original one.
I wonder if the vacuum metalising used required heat and the plastic fractured because of this? My only concern is that over time the cracks will spread. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: old-blu on October 19, 2007, 11:12:31 AM I would like to purchase 2 . [I understand the Clubs will probably negotiate a bulk order],as with the Boot Badges. Would like confirmation on this please Ken or Ret? Cheers; old-blu.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: TTV6FC on October 19, 2007, 11:56:06 AM It is interesting to note that on inspection of one of my original caps,it also has some very similar marks in the same location as the new one.Don't get me wrong Craig, this is an absolute cracker compared to any of the others I have, just wanted to confirm that they are all the same.Cheers,Jamie.
Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: craiga on October 19, 2007, 12:41:46 PM Just had a look at a NOS one and no marks. IMHO they aren't a big deal anyway, but seem to be on all the repro ones.
Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: mcl1959 on October 19, 2007, 08:19:34 PM Kev, this is true, we (namely the Vic & NSW clubs) are in the process of purchasing 50 horn caps (25 each) and the price will be about $20 cheaper than Rare Spare club price.
These will be in hot demand- for Victorian club members - see how to purchase in the Vic club section of the forum and it will also be in the next newsletter. Ken Title: Re: FC Horn Cap Post by: FC0058 on December 15, 2007, 01:22:35 AM Hi All
I have been home a week and could not wait any longer, I visited Rares today and purchased a horn button they look great and with club discount it came at a good price. I also checked out the seat surround whilst there "amazing" I need a set or two, maybe Sonja will get them for me for christmas. Cheers Jim |
