Title: In need of inspiration
Post by: andykotzur on September 28, 2005, 09:31:14 AM
As we know, it takes a bit of effort to keep an FC on the road.  But getting that second one up to rego stage sometimes seems to much.
I probably need a ten inch boot up the rear to get going again, or maby just a few questions answered.
Ive got all the undercariage completed, drivetrain working, firewall painted.  The body is blasted ,primed, and lightly bolted together.  What is the best way to go about painting?   Inside first?  Paint all the door jams and panel joins first? Paint it all apart ? all together?  What do you think?
One more is that the vehicle appears to have been involved in an accident at some stage. It has a subframe with no numbers on it.
Was it possible to buy new subframes from GMH? and do i need a number to register the car in QLD?
Thanks
andy

My painter suggested the best way would be to paint the insides of all the hanging panels, door jambs etc first, bolt it all back together and paint the outside in one hit.

No chance of getting different shades like when painting each panel individually.

It certainly was possible to get new subframes from GMH, although there are quite a few recorded instances of FE's without chassis numbers that did not appear to have been in an accident.

No recoreded instance of an FC without a chassis number where it was not obvious that a change to the subframe had occurred.

Hi Andy
my ute had no numbers and I had to go to Southport cop shop to verify that there was no No's then the cop arranged for me to go to the rego branch where they issued a new numbers which I had stamped into the sub frame hope this helps.
