Title: Ignition Light Post by: FE_UTE on September 19, 2005, 09:15:12 AM Has anyone got fitting instructions for the
Ignition and starter switch light......or how the set up works One of our members has the light and wants to fit it to his FE ute but has no idea how it works Cheers Gary Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: zulu on September 19, 2005, 09:31:03 AM Gary, from memory the lead from the ingnition light wires in to the instument lighting, so it only illuminates when the parking or headlights are on, (same as the boot light).
Gary PS should be a short grey wire on it, connects to one of the headlight switch terminals. Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: craiga on September 19, 2005, 09:42:58 AM Gary is spot on, the grey wire at the rear of the dash panel is for the dash lights. The power for these comes via the headlight switch. If you wanted it to be a little more useful it would be easy to wire it so the ignition light switch came on when you opened the drivers door. Much more useful.
Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: customFC on September 19, 2005, 10:25:07 AM Hey Craig.
Neat idea. Might have to rewire my ignition light like that. I find it pretty much useless anyway, this might help. Regards Alex Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: craiga on September 19, 2005, 10:30:27 AM Thanks Alex. ;)
All you would need to do is fit a globe carrier that has two wires coming from it - wire one side to a permanent +ve, and the other side to the door switch. When you opened the door, the light circuit would be grounded and the light would come on. Bewdiful ;D Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: FE_UTE on September 20, 2005, 10:48:33 AM Thanks fellas....have the wiring sussed now
Craig great idea for the door switch....will go down that track just need to know the position of the globe ....where it sits Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: grey_ray on September 20, 2005, 12:10:47 PM Splicing into the door light switch is a good idea, but the problem is the ignition light would go out when you close the door.
I don't know about you , but I usually close my door before I put the key in the ignition. What you want to do is wire in a delay that keeps the light on for a short time after the door is closed. You can buy kits from the electronics stores to do this. Ray. Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: mcl1959 on September 21, 2005, 05:50:47 AM The globe plugs into the ignition switch itself. Unless you have an FB/EK ignition switch fitted which is identical except for the casting of the switch body which does not have the light holder function.

And if the interior light's on, you should be able to find the ignition key-hole. Having said that, modern Commodores have a similar delay on the interior light itself, which is quite handy. It's over-ridden once you turn the key or operate the central locking, but otherwise the light stays on for about 30 seconds. cheers RET Title: Re: Ignition Light Post by: FE_UTE on September 22, 2005, 10:52:36 AM Thanks Ken
