Title: Discs for FE/FC front end
Post by: mcl1959 on June 04, 2002, 10:38:07 AM
Did you know that Hoppers Stoppers in Vic now have disc brake kits for early Holden king pin front ends.
These are a bolt on kit which allows the use of Torana disc rotors and calipers
Let me know if you are interested and I will post more details

Ken

The kit consists of a laser cut adapter plate which bolts to the kingpin support plus all the necessary bolts, nuts and washers to fit it.
You need to find Torana hubs and rotors plus calipers.
LH & LX are the best ones to use.
The Torana hubs fit straight onto the FC axles with no changes to bearings or anything.
The calipers bolt to the adapter plate.

It's as simple as that  ;D ;D ;D

Cost is about $150 for the whole kit.
Phone Hoppers Stoppers on 03 9748 6950 and speak to Peter.

Ken,
I was interested to hear about the disk brake kit offered by Hoppers Stoppers.
I am wondering, the front conversion to torana disks sounds pretty easy, (and attractive).

Does this mod require a change to the master cylinder, brake line diameter or the rear brakes?

It all sounds tooo easy?

Thanks, Damon.

Damon,  yes brake line diameter is different.
Discs also should be boosted.  Typically a later model Holden or Falcon dual circuit master cylinder is used to separate front from rear brakes.  If you fit a proportioning valve the rear brakes can be retained or HR diff with the appropriate wheel cylinder size can be fitted.
I was down at Hoppers Stoppers today where they are fitting this exact kit to a red & white FC wagon.
Call Peter and have a chat to him about it.
By the way there was also a wild FC custom with a 350 Chev having the VT "big brakes" fitted as well.
This FC will really make a splash in Maroon with a metalflake white flash and wicked graphics down the side.  Imagine a lions head painted up near the headlight on the side of the front guard with its mane flowing down the side of the car in flames right down to the rear door.  Hope to get a photo soon and will try & get it posted.
