I have asked alex if he has any more info on this,,,has anyone else seen one around...i was told that they are for blowing the dust of the rear windows of wagons ???
Any ideas??? Were they even an accessory??

I remember these things fitted to EH/HR's but has anyone seen them on FE/FC? They appear on eBay now and then so I'd be interested to know if they were a factory/Nasco thing as well.

And I seem to recall that lots of 60's Chrysler wagons had them fitted.

Maybe an aftermarket thing?

Aftermarket- most model wagons have had them fitted at some stage or other.  I think these ones fitted vertically on the pillar towards the top of the tail gate window section- one either side.  Longer one used to fit horizontally across the top of the window.  Theory was to direct airflow and thus reduce intake of dust.

We had them on the XW F*%@ wagon when we were kids (back in the days of riding in the back of the wagon in our pyjamas).  That would be called child abuse these days :P ;)

Wibroc & some other aftermarket manufacturers offered them. Valiants had them as an accessory & Nasco offered them as a genuine accessory on the EJ EH series. The EJ EH NASCO ones a VERY hard to find.

Thanks so much for the quick and always informative replies guys, I pulled it off that green floating FC Wagon, and to be honest at the time..I thought to myself that's not supposed to be there...should have taken a pic..Doh..it doesn't have any stamps or parts #'s on it anywhere and if you look closely you will see someone drilled a repair hole and pop riveted it when it came away at the back..which is a pity... ::)
It's an interesting little part none the less..

AFAIK there were 3 types available from Nasco to suit EJ-EH Wagons, and these look like one of those types.

Hi Guys.
Graham is right. I had a look in my books last night & in one bulletin which shows the type I referred to, it also mentions; "The other types already serviced for the EJ EH Holden Station Sedans", so they must be out there.
I have a bulletin for the for EJ EH wagons. It just fits those & isn't a universal fit. It has 2 holes in the top that screw into the gutter mould around the roof.
P/N 7420869. I can email a copy of the bulletin if anyone is interested.

There must be something to the theory: VT-VZ wagons/Adventras have one of these even today, integrated into the tailgate.

I also read something on the old holden website regarding their use in reducing the smell of exhaust fumes. It has to do with when you open a window reducing the cabin pressure thus sucking air in from the outside through poor tailgate seals..Kind of like a hidden bonus that the original car designers didn't think of...maybe???
The only real fix is to have good tailgate rubbers.....

I think you are most probably correct regarding the gasses leaking in. We had an old EJ wagon & then an HQ wagon. Everytime we drove along with the rear window down, us kids would all crash out. Parents loved it, woke up all groggy though!
That may explain a few things ;D

I have a NOS ddeflector in the shed. It is an alloy one, that was available on the late HRs, right through until HQ. I assume even HJ HX used it, not too sure. This one is going to SA for a mates HK Kingy.

I got some doozies you may like. Most EJ EH. The Power steering ones for BOTH models, the Clock. I will scan them all off & send them through.

My Aunt & Uncle had a pair of the deflectors on their EJ wagon  , just about everyone around here who lived on dirt roads had these and they actually worked  :o
  They were available for Holdens , Valiants & Fords , very popular in the 60's & 70's  . I remember Valiants & Fords had the horizontal type , some looking like they were "moulded" onto the top of the tailgate . I've got one here for a Ford  XA-C , fits with 4 self-tappers. (Will try & get a pic)

Some interesting facts here. I had thought these were available fo EJ/EH, but the parts book only mentions HD/HR. Nice to know my gut feel was correct.  :)
As a matter of interest, I have 2 Wibroc catalogues, 1 x 1961 and 1 x 1964, neither of these show a dust deflector as part of their range.

Rob,
I have some I pulled off my EH wagon when I got it.  I'm not sure if they are nasco or not - four screws: two at top, two at bottom, made of stainless I think.  I've almost thrown them away a few times!

If I get a post of them up could you identify them for me?

Yep, go for it.
I found a couple of sets here, I have identified these as both Wibroc. The wibroc type seem to use a diamond shape quite a lot.
