Title: Cooling system for 186 red motor
Post by: bob_hawke on July 23, 2005, 03:04:28 AM
hey i was wondering on some peoples opinion on getting any sort of cooling system in a 65 EH , just so it can be driven around in the city and stop at lights without getting too hot..
what are my options?

I'm presuming your car already has a radiator ::)

The standard EH radiator was a pretty reasonable size for 149/179, should be OK with a 186.  If running warm is a problem, make sure the existing cooling system is in good condition - perhaps get it professionally flushed?

An overflow bottle is also a good investment.  My FE runs a 186 with only a stock FC radiator (significantly smaller than EH) and overflow bottle, in Sydney and doesn't suffer overheating problems.

cheers

Are you running a 149 or 179 Radiator? The 179 Radiator is significantly bigger than the 149. Of course you should also do all the normal cooling system checks....thermostat/water pump/radiator blockages, etc.
Also, '63 EH's with 179 Auto ran a different diameter water pump pulley to the '64 model. I think the '64 was smaller diameter.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Graham

thanks for the help,
just got the thermostat changed recently, might check if it has leaks or something, probably just paranoid.
thanks again
