Title: dodgy speedo cable
Post by: FEHOLDEN on June 02, 2005, 10:44:59 AM
gidday all

ii have just replaced the speedo cable in the HT with a second hand one from a HG auto[same cable afaik] and now the speedo needle "whips" back and forth whilst driving along. the odometer also under reads the distance travelled by quite a bit. i'm not sure what i have done wrong or maybe havnt done but should have. Hopefully some one can help before mr.plod stops me and tells me how fast i am really going :-[

Sounds like your speedo head is seizing up which is maybe why the 1st one broke.

Eventually the second cable will break as well unless you fix it.

Ken is exactly right those are the symptoms from when my FE cable broke about 25 years ago.
Cheers,

thanks Ken and Graham

is this a simple fix or would it be easier to replace the whole speedo?
