Title: fe hotrods not so cool ride!!!
Post by: fe hotrod on May 29, 2005, 04:55:57 AM
Thought i would post some pics of a fe ute i recently bought, not to sure if i am going to wreck it or strip it right down and restore it??have a look and let me know what you all think,it has got bad rust in the floor pans and sills, although theres no rust in the windscreen cowl, subframe doglegs, bottom of the rear quarters, sort of not sure what to do???i would hate to see it go to the tip!!!(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y177/fe_hotrod/DSC00376.jpg)

Got a lot of work ahead of you there.  There's also lots missing from the photo, engine, steering wheel, etc. Do you have all the missing bits? or is that what you bought, just the body.

Too good to send to the tip tho.

My 2 cents, Kevin

If it is as good as you say, I would strip it down and rebuild. But I am not the one with the work ahead of me.

Cheers Jim

Looking at it, I reckon that you should fix it.  It'll make a nice work car so you can keep the sedan special.

jamie,
That ute looks like an excellent project.  Dont scrap it, take your time and do it up, at the end you will reap all the rewards and have an excellent ute to boot!!!!

But on that note , I would suggest sandblasting it , It will look a million bucks (sparking enthusiasm) be cleaner for repairs and repair size becomes visable, better resale etc etc

gee that brings back a lot of memorys of my first ute that i bought. it was a fe that nice glowing gray with only a bit of surface rust over it and the floor was rusted out like yours. i ended up swaping to the spray painter that work for my father inlaw to paint my lj torana that we had just fineshed  at the time,   as i did not have any were to store it back thet,   wish i had the area i have to day as it would look like a wrecking yard.           (i suppose it looks like it now)

failing that.. turn it into a cool trailer.

Cheers

;)thanks for the encoragement fellas,im going to strip it repair the rust in the floors and sills remove the subframe and put her on her side, after looking at how streetneat has done his rear floor in his fc ute,it doesnt look that bad after all, maybe a roof chop its a lot easier with a ute thats for sure!!ive been toying with the idea of suicide doors(once fatboy works out how to do it on an early holden!!)matt purple paint with some scallops make it real low,red rims in that true rat style no caps of course, then i will have a real rat fe ute,big project, although i,ve got the time and the money, and a heap of motivation which i find you can get easily from the guys on this site,so here goes im out to the garage to make a start!!!!!!cheers jamie
